Stayed here before several times, so I know the condition of the rooms and location. I made a reservation for Friday and got the following very condescending email: "...To help ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, we would like to provide you with a few important reminders and policies ahead of your arrival. Basically, their first assumption about a guest is that we are thugs off the street that will do nothing but cause problems for their precious hotel. No customer should be communicated with in this manner. I promptly cancelled the reservation and will be staying elsewhere. Looking at the many negative reviews only confirmed my decision. Even if you are a Marriott loyalist, you shouldn't have to put up with this. Recommend staying where you're appreciated instead of berated even...
Read moreWe booked Residence Inn Windsor/Hartford (Dunfey lane in Windsor) for 5 nights starting July 24th,2025. When we arrived, we found this property to be a 2 story hotel which looks like prior studio apartments that were converted into a hotel (may be or may be not). When we checked in, they gave us a unit that smelled very musty like mold. We asked for a different unit. We got another unit but it smelled the same again. We did not want to keep asking for different units, so we tried to make the best of it by going out and buying $30 worth of cleaners. My wife cleaned all surfaces and floors in the room. She also sprayed Febreze on all furniture. We also bought 2 Febreze plug in wall air fresheners to try to freshen up the musty moldy smell of the room. We stripped all linens on the bed and went to a laundromat to wash then because they smelled really bad like people slept on them but housekeeping never changed them before they checked us into the room. We thought all this cleaning would take care of the issues we experienced but it did NOT. We asked the night shift (two young men at the front desk) if we can talk to the manager on duty, but they told us there was no manager on duty. We had no choice but to stay over the first night. When we cleaned the floors ourselves, the towels literally became black from the dirt on them. The floors still looked gross and dirty (not to mention old and outdated). Wall to wall carpeting had food crumbs on it like it was never vacuumed. Bathroom is gross with holes in the base boards indicating old, antiquated, and probably can pass through bugs and critters. No walk-in shower, just an old shower head in a dirty bath-tub. Towels are very cheap quality and did not smell clean. Toilet paper is single ply like what you find in gas stations. Old run-down furniture. Small old TV. Front door does not open/close easily. Lock on front door does not work; only a latch on the inside. You can hear every step of people in the second floor above us. I talked to the manager first thing next morning informing him we were checking out because of unacceptable conditions for a $170/night hotel, and he offered to give us 4 nights refund out of the 5 nights booking (the refund amount expected is $678.65) because he is charging us for one night even though we did NOT sleep at all from disgust with the room's conditions. After 9 days of checking regularly with my bank, NO refund came through. I called the hotel manager on the phone after one week from leaving the hotel to ask for the refund again, and all he said was he submitted the refund the day we checked out. After 9 days, we decided to dispute the refund amount (not the original full charge of the booking) per our bank representative's recommendation. All in all, this is probably the worst experience we have had with any hotel we ever stayed in. We checked out the next morning and went to a different hotel. Forgot to mention: WiFi in room does NOT work. This is our honest account of what happened. Draw your own conclusions about...
Read morePHONE STOLEN FROM ROOM!!!! We stayed the long weekend in August for a shopping trip from Cornwall, Ontario. The hotel was very nice and so was the room. We opted for leaving our phones and tablets in the room because a) it's a Marriott and the other option was to leave all our electronics in a sweltering car in mall parking lots. We had a laptop, 2 tablets and 3 phones - it never dawned on me to lug all this stuff to the front desk to have them lock it up - I've stayed in 500 hotels in my lifetime and never as anything gone missing - EVER!!! People were in and out of our room all day it seems, as the keys used were logged to hotel staff. Two of them had no business in our room at all (housekeeping when we told them no housekeeping and an employee who went to reset the router (which was in a locked closet in our room) but he entered the room twice in the span of 5 minutes - once the reset to router and I'm convinced 100% the second time was to take the phone. There was no break-in. The phone was clearly on the kitchen table when we left and was gone when we came back. Compensation: $0 Was basically told that it was our fault that their staff stole my daughter's phone because we left it in the room and that it's our word against theirs that the phone was in the room. I know it seems odd but we even took a photo of the phone sitting on her tablet on the kitchen table before we left. After a long and exhausting police interview and the trauma of being so violated, John J said he would do everything in his power to help us. Instead, I spent countless hours emailing him and phoning him for updates as he never returned my phone calls or emails. I was 2 weeks without a phone as I waited to hear word of recovery or not. I received a similar answer from the Marriott Corporate Office. Diane Krobe, Mr. Marriott's liaison who stated that any time you leave your room and you leave your valuables, they are not responsible. So I said to Mrs. Krobe, so in essence, if you stay at this hotel you must be prepared to take your tablets, phones, laptops with you or have them locked up at the front desk each and every time you leave your room. She said yes. So Going down for breakfast? Going to the pool? Leaving for Dinner? Yes - you must bring all your valuables with you at all times she said. John J will probably respond to this review as he often does and I can't blame him for that. But keep in mind, I have stayed in over 500 hotels in the last 40 years and I have left my laptop, phone, jewelry, my expensive camera and even money in my room and NEVER ever have I had anything stolen. But the comments from Mrs. Krobe are very telling. It tells me that this hotel (or any Marriott hotel) hire thieves as employees and we, as guests, cannot trust them. DO NOT STAY AT...
