The owners of this property have worked very hard to make it a beautiful venue for any occasion but especially for weddings. That is why we chose it more than a year ago. We loved it because it has a simple but sophisticated beauty, it had hidden parking so we would have beautiful views no matter where we were taking photos and the facilities were nice for our daughter's wedding. But a beautiful location and a lot of hard work isn't enough to make a venue great. When we reserved the Barns, we did a walk through and discussed pricing and the parking area and some details, nothing was in writing. A year later, a few things had changed with no notification and there were details that should have been taken care of before our arrival. My advice, get everything in writing at the time of booking the Barns. Take photos and video at the same time. The owners are nice enough, but they have hired a young woman to manage their events. She needs significant training in customer service and event management. They should have conducted a walk through the afternoon before we even arrived to make sure the property was in order and everything was working. When we arrived, the refrigerators had not been plugged in, the floors needed swept in the reception barn, the electricity was not working in the chapel area., AND the parking that we were pretty happy about was NOT available because no one had mowed in months - the grass was 4 foot high! So we had plug stuff in ourselves, turn on the a/c and then call the owner and tell him about the nails in the aisle, the old wood, hammer, hoses out in the walk ways, and get him on the electrical problem. We also had to get the manager to sweep the floors. All these things were added stress to an already stressful day. The manager had spoken to my daughter for an entire day asking about other things she might need, but when it came to collecting a $200 check, she waited until my daughter was putting on her wedding dress and pounced at the bottom of the stairs! I went to her and told her to deal with me, that this was not the time to bother my daughter, she brushed me off and demanded the check and that my daughter should bring it down to her. I had already paid a $200 deposit AND the $1,600_+ for the B&B and this girl wants to create significant stress and a scene 5 minutes before my daughter's big debut!!!! Totally set me off. This is NOT the way to manage an event. She had ample opportunities to ask her about it, and she could have simply explained what she needed to me and let us get on with our special day, but she just wouldn't budge. My daughter sent down the check with one of her bridesmaids and then cried for about 10 minutes. Yes, I am very angry about this, it could have been avoided. All in all, we had a beautiful event due to our own efforts. They could have an outstanding venue if they'd only learn how to manage the details and manage their customer...
Read moreWe took a one night family escape to Winfield, and decided to have an adventure and stay in the treehouse. At first glance, the property is quite well-maintained, very attractive, and certainly a novelty amongst places to stay in Kansas. In that sense, this place is great.||What is more, the treehouse is indeed unique. It is set up in the trunks of an Osage Orange tree, and it has a common area and a small sleeping loft. Additional people can sleep in the common area on blowup mattresses. Again, so far so good.||Once you look at the details, however things begin to fall apart. For such an amazing treehouse, it was disappointed that the small porch could not have been swept, and instead was covered with leaves and dirt. The flower pot at the base of the stairs had filled with water during the rains, And already had mosquito larvae growing in it, so the water had been there for sometime, which very simply leads to lots of biting mosquitoes a few days later. As a consequence, no one was particularly comfortable sitting outside.||Inside the treehouse, we quickly noted that the space had not been tidied up or dusted recently. Yes, I know it is a rustic setting, but there really is no reason for a room that one rents for $150 a night cannot be fixed up spic and span and comfortable in preparation for receiving guests.||Where things fell apart completely was at breakfast. The breakfast consisted of two different kinds of pastries and bacon. Yes, coffee and tea, and juice that was not particularly high quality, but no eggs no toes, Nothing that one might expect in a simple farm breakfast. Again, not expecting anything fancy, but we all went to a restaurant in downtown Winfield and had a more serious breakfast after the breakfast that we had paid for. Extra persons are $15 a night, apparently reflecting the cost of the breakfast. Quite simply this is ridiculous, as the breakfast was spartan, and quite incomplete.||Finally, the blowup mattress that was supplied to us for the extra person deflated during the course of the night, and our third person spent a fairly miserable night on the floor. When we mentioned this to the management, there was no apology, Simply the statement that they had checked it two weeks before.||There were other details. The pillows are quite uncomfortable, although we knew to bring our own. The management was quite impolite about demanding payment at nine in the morning, even though checkout time is noon.||Overall, then, this place is beautiful and could be great. It is clear that the management has no experience, and perhaps no talent for this business. It is a pity, because the place...
Read moreWhat a hidden gem! This place is a wedding venue with an outdoor chapel and a big barn for an indoor reception, but we stayed there for their Bed and Breakfast. They have a large barn that houses multiple rooms you can stay in, but we stayed in the famously coveted TREEHOUSE! A short walk from the barn porch (complete with rocking chairs facing the sunset) you can see the TREEHOUSE peak through the trees. The grand steps are lined with lights. There are 2 hammocks and a grill on the ground level. Up the stairs is a cute little deck area that seats 2. Enter the treehouse to step into the common area, about 12'x12' that has a fireplace, small table, mini fridge, sink, Keurig, and seating. There is a small bathroom with toilet and shower. They have the softest most luxurious towels! The whole treehouse slants a little and you can feel it move a little when you walk, but that's just a part of the experience! Up the steep steps to the loft area you find the queen sized bed, fan, and window AC unit. I was worried it would be hot in the middle of June, but we were very comfortable! There were games and cards available, but I recommend you bring a book! All the comforts of home, only in a treehouse with plumbing and electric! As we pulled into the property, our arrival was announced by the loud, but friendly grounds dog. If you relax on the porch swing under the trees, he will bring you his ball for a game of fetch! While checking in, they were very helpful in asking about any food allergies. The breakfast changes daily. She said the day before they had crepes, however we enjoyed a cheese omelette, bacon, coffee cake, fruit parfait, milk, and sparkling flavored water. Breakfast was delivered to the treehouse at our requested time in the cutest little heart shaped picnic basket. The hardest decision we made whole whole time was deciding what was more delicious, the coffee cake or the bacon! This was the perfect surprise getaway for our 2nd wedding anniversary! 💘 We plan to return once their vineyard is matured and...
