This is near the bottom of the list of New Jersey campgrounds I've been to. There is lot of potential, but with better options nearby there isn't much reason to go back.

The bad: 1. The majority of sites are right on top of each other, with at least one adjoining site that it feels like you're sharing space with. 2. The water spigot I used had some funky tasting water with floaties and an oily sheen on top. I'm not usually picky about well water, but I went out and bought some bottled for this trip. 3. Even though you drive back into the forest for a while to get to the campground, you still hear the constant drone of the highway.

The good: If you're into gravel cycling, there are a ton of low traffic dirt roads along with the 50+ mile long Batona trail running right through...

Brendon Byrne state park is a great park for camping, hiking, bike riding, off road exploring. There are a few trails throughout the park including the northern end of the Batona trail. Camping facilities have fire ring, picnic table, flushable toilets, showers and access to drinking water for filling up. The campground was not very busy for a wknd in summer. The trails were well marked and maintained. There is a picnic area at the pond. There is also a nature center and playground near the entrance to...

I'm giving this campground mixed reviews because it's too expensive from a Batona Trail hiker's perspective. On the plus side, the bathrooms are super clean, and it has large camping spots with water. It's a really well cared for campground. The main problem is that the minimum # of nights you can reserve online is 2 nights, and it's $20/night, so it's quite expensive. If you're thru-hiking the Batona Trail, you've got to spend $40 (with one night of your reservation just wasted)....

The good: large sites, well spaced out except for some buddy tent sites, mostly quiet at night, they have a dump station. The bad: $25 a night (non-resident) plus $5 reservation fee is high considering no hook ups and almost no ranger presence. Also they lock the dump station, so you better have the code if you need to drop tanks on the way in. The ugly: Very little signage from main roads and Google will probably try to get you to take some narrow dirt side road instead of the main road.

I hiked the Mt. Misery trail (white) the trail was marked very well. You do need to pay attention at intersections as turns are easy to miss. Trail is mostly sand. Trail is well shaded. There is a bathroom at the trailhead beginning at pakim pond. There are also picnic tables and grills at the pond. The trail is an easy walk with no real inclines.
