I dislike posting negative reviews especially when I feel the owners are really trying hard to do well. Unfortunately, their efforts are missing the mark. Our stay at the Lincoln Inn was very disappointing. The room condition was poor. The bed was soft to the point of being startled by the depth you sank when sitting on it. The air conditioning functioned, but had no ability to set a desired temperature. The room door has become misaligned. This happens in old historic buildings. But the fix provided both no security and no privacy as the room door was basically held open by 3/4 inch. Room and inn information was taped to the wall on 8 1/2 x 11 office paper. This simply shouldn’t happen in an inn often charging over $300 night.
Breakfast was continental and required signing up on a clipboard. Again, not how an inn trying to be high class should function. The breakfast was also set out in open air with no covers.
I think the family that owns this inn is really trying hard, but it just isn’t working. Until they adjust some details and attend to some of the maintenance items, I’d stay elsewhere.
Edit considering the owner’s response. I tried to be kind and the response was to defend their business. Understandable, but the information provided leaves many questions. If the bed in that room is new, it is not one of commercial quality. Bed in a box perhaps? The AC, we did ask for guidance and the help we received was not useful. I believe it was the owner’s son who checked us in and subsequently helped with the AC. The remote for the AC was missing from the room. The young man did not have full knowledge of how the unit operated. The remote he provided was filthy.
Out of respect for a family that is trying to earn a living, I didn’t post pictures of the papers taped to the wall, the sign up sheet for breakfast or the food, including fruit , that was most definitely out in the open air completely unattended on the morning of our stay. Also, when you’re on vacation, do you know the night before what your morning plans will be? Signing up for breakfast when checking into a hotel is most definitely not like placing an order in a restaurant when you’ve gone there to eat.
The young man who checked us in was not friendly nor representative of the attitude at others inns at which we stayed on the trip. As shown, the room could not be secured with the door lock as is. The owner claims this door is secure. The screws on the door handle were loose. The door is held by a tiny block of wood. It wouldn’t take more than a light push for that “latch” to give way. The room may have been painted, but that simply doesn’t make up for a bed that is of questionable commercial quality or the lack of AC control. Bottom line, in my opinion, these owners need some very basic training on how to operate an inn. It is very obvious that no formal training has been received. From the unsanitary food presentation, to the complicated WIFI access code that only can be seen by standing next to wall where it is taped, the inn is simply not welcoming.
I’m also fairly certain at least some of the other reviews are from friends of the owners trying to establish positive reviews. Look at the owners response to my review and then the content of other reviews and it’s easy to see a theme, “recently renovated”, “amazing service.”...
Read moreBeautiful location on the Ottauquechee River in Woodstock, Vermont. The one-of-a-kind Lincoln covered bridge abuts the property. The owners and family are warm and very accommodating. Our unit had a fully stocked kitchen with full-size stove and refrigerator. The king size bed was new and very comfortable. There is an art gallery on site with beautiful paintings done by the 17 year old daughter of the owners. @gracescarletart on Instagram. Outside, there is a large patio and a pergola. If you like picking up stones, there is a large area of small to larger ones at the river’s edge. Easy to get to this hotel which is just west of the center of Woodstock and not far from Quechee Gorge, Simon Pearce glass and Restaurant as well as Andrew Pearce’s wooden bowl display with live turning on site. There is also the large antique store of B. F. Southgate and Company that is very clean and has a huge variety of...
Read moreFabulous 2-night visit! This was our first visit to the area and we were pleasantly surprised by our luck in picking this Inn. The food was amazing from the delicious breads, homemade granola, breakfast burritos AND Creme Brulee French toast... ALL on the same morning.. it was over the top!!! Our room was simply yet beautifully decorated, loved the morning light and the bed was perfect for us. Lots of quirks being that it is a historical inn but nothing was a deal breaker for us. If you want marbled bathrooms and sterile environments then perhaps not the place for you. But if you appreciate a cozy inn on beautiful property where you can sip your morning coffee in Adirondack chairs by the river's edge then you've found your spot. Add to all of this the wonderfully warm and helpful owners who had excellent suggestions for places to visit and some scenic roads to take! We are certainly looking to our...
