terrible experience. The girl working the camp store on June 21st at 6pm was rude as all get out. She was very condescending. We had cut off our wristbands after getting off the river as we were told we only needed them for the bus ride. I have a bad case of claustrophobia and things like wristbands trigger my paranoia, so I couldn't take anymore. Well security came to us and told us we had to keep wearing them. When I told this to the lady at the campstore(who refused to give me her name) She very condescendingly asked me why I would when think about cutting them off. I explained to her my phobia and that when we were handed the bands I asked what they were for, and i was told we needed then for the pavilion. When I went to the pavilion they said I only needed them to get onto the bus for the river trip. She scoffed at me and told me there would be a band replacement charge and that I only had 4 people on my site. I told her we had 6 and that I would go get the cut bands. When I came back with the bands she charged me for 2 extra people per night. When I asked her why she told me the site was only good for 2 adults and 2 kids. I explained to her that the other 2 kids were my kids and she said she didn't care that that was the policy. Completely rude and condescending the whole time. I don't appreciate being spoken to like I'm an idiot.
Lost horizons boasts being a "family" campground, as it's in there name. But I'm currently being punished for having a family. I could understand if I needed more space because of the extra kids, but I'm providing the sleeping and living space. The electricity isn't affected by my 2 extra kids as my ac and electric use will be the same if I have 1 person or 10. My storage tanks are holding all their waste and I don't even use your dump station as the layout of it creates a traffic jam nightmare.. you can't even say I'm using extra water as I bring my own drinking water for my family. At best you could say my 2 extra kids might use more water for washing....... but not 5 bucks a day extra per kid.
Also there's nothing to do there for kids. They have a run down basketball court and an volleyball court with the wrong sand. I understand paying more for larger families at campgrounds that have amenities, but that's not the case here. The only activity they seem to have is a random game of dodge the side by sides that fly in to utilize the bar. Real family place here. I'm not saying I need these people to entertain my kids, but don't charge me more for them and call yourself a family campground if you don't have anything for the kids to do, except play in the river that you don't own.
In closing this "family" campground is anything but that. You punish a family by charging more for having a family. Your staff was inconsistent on their knowledge of your policies and the only one that seemed to know the policy was rude as hell.
Not gonna lie, probably gonna look elsewhere for my river trip stays in the future.
Just found out the rude employee was one of the owners.... yikes! If the owner treats people that way, how can I expect the employees to...
Read moreLocation is nice, right on the Mohican River. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are Lost Horizon kayaking trips you can purchase which is a nice feature. We had our own kayaks and the staff gave us a great recommendation for where to drop in which was perfect. The site we chose was very level and easy to back in (no pull-thru here). There is a new restaurant with pizza, ice cream, beer and Trulys available. They have both tent sites and RV sites. These sites are not full service in that they don't have sewage at the site. One important note on the electric and water hookup - some of the sites have the electric in the front so you need really long cords. And the water is shared between two sites so one site will have to have a very long water line. The water is well water, but it was not overly pungent (and I am high maintenance about this!) They had fun things to do each night - a band one night, a DJ with karaoke another, and a cornhole tournament. People were observant of quiet hours, dogs were properly managed. Be aware that sites opposite the river are directly on the road. The traffic did not bother us but it could for some. The bridge near the site was out so the traffic wasn't bad. It will be out until Sept '24. The biggest complaint I have is there is no wifi at the site and the cell service is non-existent. I work from home and my job doesn't end during vacation so this was difficult. If you want to look up anything, even where to hike for example, you have to mosey up to the office or restaurant area to use their wifi. The long timers who have been camping there for years are very friendly. They really made the...
Read moreMy review was one star with no explanation, but I’ve come back to elaborate. My family comes every year with a big group, more than half of the people with us we don’t know. We know my aunt, and two family friends. My family and I were trying to enjoy our vacation, but that was hard to do when we were being targeted for small things that we didn’t cause. Supposedly the people causing small issues were in our group, so the owner said we were “guilty by association”… we still tried to enjoy our time despite this. My dad’s birthday was the 23rd, so we decided to leave early on the 22nd to celebrate at home, because he decided he’d rather be home for his birthday. I left this one star because I think the way we were treated was completely not okay. When we were pulling our camper out they had two sherifs there, why?? The cherry on top is the owner sent my father an email saying they went ahead and cancelled our spot for next year due to my one star review, and the fact that we don’t like their policies… your policies aren’t the issue, how you are targeting my family for doing nothing is! How about separate us from the group, and stop hassling and interrupting us on our vacation for things we are not doing? Confront the issue head on with the troublemakers instead. So unprofessional, and very disappointing. The owners are new, so hopefully they can figure out how to handle situations like this...
