Ive been coming here since i have been a baby. Parents have been members since the 80s. Now me and my siblings are co-members. Im 39 now. Ive seen it change through out the years good and bad. Its a good place to take your family for camping trips and have fun around the park. But they dont have enough employees to have that place jumping like it use to. When i was a kid, they had events and scheduled things throughout the day to keep the kids occupied and have fun. They use to have dances on Saturdays during the summer for the adults and kids. The ice cream shop and funnel cake stand us to be open all the time. The paddle boats ran all day until closing. Not everything closes super early. No event schedule, no lifeguards at the pool. I literally seen kids in the pool at night and im like, um thats dangerous. How i know is, i picked up my nieces and nephews from the pool and it was already dark. Most of the other employees who made that park fun and pleasant are all gone. RIP Gus…Now its young kids who look like they dont even want to be there. But the guy at the restaurant with the ice cream was coo. The rangers there take their job way too serious. I see more gated up areas now. With all that money coming in from customers they should upgrade quit a few things. They over sold on that place too. So hard to get a cabin now and the communication is bad when trying to book. Now on fish stocking day, there is no fishing, it use to be no fishing for 2 hours after stocking… the lake isnt the lake it use to be, now there is a bluish green dye they put in it. That effects the fish so much, and the fishing is so bad now. Im a big fisherman and its bad. The fishing use to be really good. Sometimes, you will get lucky if you get one bite. I was up there this week, i didnt see any ducks. There are usually tons of ducks there. I dont know, its not the same for sure. I just see a camp park that is getting a lot of money now and they are doing just enough to keep the consumer happy. Oh and the arcade still has games when i was a kid in there, come now, upgrade. So many more rules also, im a grown man but im like dang, these kids cant have any fun especially with the strict rangers they have now. I just up there if family is in town or for nostalgia every blue moon. The wilderness is still up to par tho, love going there. Good job with that. They upgraded the adult pool area, now theres a bar for the...
Read moreThe fishing is pretty good. That’s about it.
It’s a family friendly campground with more rules than a really bad HOA. The activities and amenities they provide have deteriorated and aren’t the same quality as when I was a kid. You pay all this money for cheap scavenger hunts, broken arcade machines and more.
The rule enforcing can be good sometimes don’t get me wrong, you’ll feel safe while you’re there but it goes overboard ALL THE TIME.
Employees can push the limits all the time. There is no official accountability or way to report them and there honestly needs to be.
Small examples:
I remember being yelled at for riding my bike at night; by myself as a teenager. Mind you I was causing no problems, they just kept harassing me because they felt I looked too young. My parents were pissed.
can’t have a gasoline golf cart
They have harassed my folks before because their tent was a 2 man tent instead of a 4 man. (Seriously?)
can’t drive the golf cart unless you are “approved” (for example, my uncle can’t hop in the golf cart when he visits unless we jump through their hoops to have him on the list)
harassing my 16 year old cousin who was left at camp during the day while his dad was called into work. He drove his bike to the store and back to camp and they almost didn’t let him back into camp because he wasn’t an adult. He was on a BICYCLE.
They pay their employees barely anything for them to drive into the mountains and work. They suck every nickel and dime out of you for new fees, dues, fines ALL THE TIME while their CEOS get richer and their actual workers get poorer.
It’s ok to visit as a guest but I would never own a membership here. If my family passes it down I’m honestly selling it.
Also, don’t do the tour if you plan to buy your timeshare from a third party because they will make you sign a thing that says you can’t buy from anyone but mountain lakes for a certain amount of time.
(Third party memberships are cheaper! Because it’s people tired of their games selling it to someone who actually wants to deal with it)
The fishing is good but not for how much they charge. I’m sure they’ll continue to increase that price as well.
At least they keep the lake stocked - it’s the least they can do for how they price gouge their members and honestly their...
Read moreI've been an upstanding member at Mountain Lakes in Lytle Creek CA for more than a dozen years. Although we rarely use the membership, we've maintained our annual dues accordingly. In June 2021, a neighbor friend expressed interest in purchasing a membership. I offered her to spend a weekend to view the resort prior to committing to the purchase. The plan was that I would stay with she & her family over the weekend. On Friday evening I received information regarding an immediate family member that had a medical emergency & required my presence. I was forced to leave the site to attend to the matter at hand. unfortunately I remained in the hospital until the early hours of the following day. I was informed by my guest at Mountain Lakes that during my absence that the park rangers had visited the site and requested the presence of an active member. Due too the fact I wasn't present, the ranger informed my guest's, "potential new member" that they must leave. I received a letter a few weeks later from "General Manager", Jo Ann Torres in forming me that my membership is suspended for "1-Full Year" due to the situation mentioned. The letter also stated that my dues would be expected throughout the suspension. I phoned Mountain Lakes on 2-seperate occasions & left voicemails for Jo Ann Torres, "General Manager" only to finally to get a call back a week after the second call. I explained to her that I had an unforeseen emergency which caused my absence. Jo Ann Torres was rude & could only quote me their policy. I was told to review my handbook which I had in front of me during the call. The handbook states that action could be taken depending on the circumstance. The 1-year suspension for such a small infraction that was explainable & which I could also document was far too strict in my opinion. I asked that she reconsider which she swiftly replied. No! She then explained that if I didn't agree with "Her" decision that I could take it up with the board of directors. My guest that I introduced to Mountain Lakes resulted in a new membership for the park due too the fact I received the suspension letter after they purchased the membership. I doubt that I'll renew my membership based on the leadership of the current "General Manager" Jo...
