Posada Ayana — Hotel in José Ignacio

To say I was excited about a visit to Posada Ayana is an understatement. I spent years wanting to stay here and ultimately planned an entire trip from the US to Uruguay around a 5-day stay at this exquisite property. With expectations sky high, they had every opportunity to disappoint and not once did they. In fact, they exceeded our hopes at literally every turn. The magic they have captured here - and the experience that their team works lovingly to cultivate and create - is second to none. I’ve traveled the world and stayed in some incredible places. Posada Ayana very much tops the list.

First, even in my (clearly enthusiastic, borderline neurotic) trip planning, Felicitas and her team were incredibly responsive and helpful. The hospitality began well before our stay - a true class act. Trust their recommendations and embrace the pace here.

You’ll read plenty of reviews remarking on how each room and corner of this property is perfectly appointed. Edda and Felicitas have an eye and attention to detail that is inspired and inspiring. We were graciously upgraded to the Sunflower suite upon arrival and absolutely THRIVED with our outdoor shower. This room is secluded in the best way possible, very private and a perfect retreat for a romantic week at the coast. With the views from the pool/common areas, we did not miss the views in the room and adored the outdoor garden as an alternative.

I could write extensively about the beauty and elegance of the property. It is truly plucked from dreams at every turn. And I won’t pretend that doesn’t matter because the green marble infinity pool most certainly does. That said, the experience of staying at Posada Ayana is that of being welcomed into your friend’s (luxury) home and, in that respect, it is so much more than an aesthetically remarkable place. From the moment you arrive, through each (perfect) breakfast, as you weave your way through your time in Jose Ignacio, you feel more than a paying guest. You feel genuine warmth, care and belonging that extends well beyond a hotel stay. Getting to know this family and their incredibly kind staff is what makes travel special. We arrived two Americans on a vacation and left with what feels like new friends. At the risk of overstating it, Robert and Felicitas spending time with us (as they did with each guest each day) cemented this trip as a lifelong memory.

My eyes welled with tears this morning when I realized it was our last day and again when Felicitas brought us the guest book to sign as a farewell. That’s how special this place is and why I will absolutely find my way back here again. My wife and I are sitting in the Punta de Este airport discussing our stay in Uruguay at the marvelous Posada Ayana. Words are hard to find to accurately describe what a special place Robert and his family have created. |From the moment we arrived and met his daughter, Felicitas, we felt immediately at home amongst all of the staff who so effortlessly take care of you throughout your stay. ||Your day starts with a fantastic breakfast of fresh fruit, delicious croissants which you must dip in dulce de leche and a hot item. Omelette etc. They also have specialty coffee drinks included. You sit and enjoy your morning with gorgeous views of both their infinity pool and the ocean. ||You can explore all of the wonderful restaurants, beaches and art of Jose Ignacio by foot or use one of the provided bikes. They also have a basic fitness area, beach chairs and that incredible pool mentioned. ||Do not hesitate to book a stay at Posada Ayana. We’ve been gone only a couple hours and already are dreaming of our next stay. ||And don’t forgot to experience the Sky Space - a truly fascinating art...
