Hotel Del Lago Golf & Art Resort — Hotel in Punta Ballena

The the time we booked our stay we asked that we have adjoining rooms as we were coming with our teenage sons, I also asked about the use of the tennis courts all of which we were told we could have and use. Upon arrival we were split up to two different floors and pretty far from each other. Due to a tennis tournament that was going on and being fully booked there was nothing that could be done. Both of our rooms were facing the back of the hotel and yet there were children who were in the tennis tournament who had spectacular views of the lagoon and were very much cleaner, and slightly more updated than ours and our boys room. Our rooms were simply just outdated, but the cleanliness in the boys room was OK. However, when my husband and I walked into our room, there was a very distinct old bleach, pungent smell. Fortunately I always carry sanitizer with lemon oil that managed to disguise this fowl smell and 2 days in it was gone. There was a leftover residual left in the bidet from a previous guest, the hot water took half an hour to actually warm up, the water pressure for the cold water was a joke, with taps leaking, the toilet constantly flowing and wasting water, the shower grate that was detached, the vent that was also detached and so dirty, the refrigerator in the room was full of ice, mold inside the cabinet, a safe that was half the size of our boys, peeling paint in the ceiling and towels that had holes in them from being so old. I actually had the first hot shower on day 6 of our stay as we left the water running for so long. The rooms were paper thin and we could hear our neighbors full conversations which woke us 2 mornings in a row. None of this gave any sort of vibe to a five star resort. And quite frankly, I would barely give it two stars. The only saving grace was the comfort of the bed and pillows.||The indoor pool and hot tub were dirty and old and the hot tub was exposed to the filter and no controls working. The outdoor pool was impressive to look at however the pool cleaning was half hearted and the tubes to clean the pool were left there unattended for hours.||From negatives to a positive. The breakfast buffet was substantial, and the staff worked their hardest to make sure that if something had run out, they would replace it quickly. I guess it’s very hard to keep up when you have so many young guests wanting to eat at the same time.||For the most part the staff were very friendly, except for the member of staff from the gym, I believe she is the activities staff member. The reception staff and dining staff were all as helpful as they could be and...

Dudé en hacer esta reseña, pero alguien lo tiene que hacer. Mas que nada para que futuros huéspedes (como yo en el pasado) sepan a lo que se van a enfrentar.

La verdad que el hotel es malo. Y no hay otra palabra para decirlo. Seguramente tuvo su época de esplendor. Me hace acordar al término "menemista" por la época dorada sobre los 90s/00s del lujo que reflejaba moquete, pero hoy en día es un museo de lo que alguna vez fue, y lo peor de todo mal mantenido. Y les juro que estoy siendo objetivo. Algunas habitaciones se ve muy poco mantenimiento, las canillas y duchas todas calcificadas, puertas rotas, rajadas, y a lo largo y ancho de todo el hotel (no sólo habitación) vas a poder ver humedades, suciedad, cosas rotas, y la sensación que genera es una tristeza y abandono total. Además sin contar que toda esa falta de mantenimiento uds la están viendo en imágenes porque el olor no se puede transmitir por aquí. Muchas reviews dicen que el lugar es hermoso, y es verdad, es lindo el lago pero son muy pocas las habitaciones que dan al lago, y es sólo eso, porque a 15km de Gorlero, vas a estar 20 a 30 minutos para ir y volver, lo que hace obligatorio ir en auto. Y allí otro problema, mucha cancha de golf, pero poco estacionamiento. Los autos estacionados por donde se pueda en las calles alrededor del hotel, que si bien es una zona segura y no te va a pasar nada, carecen de vigilancia. También las distancias tienen sus contras porque nos tocó ver unos turistas que querían irse en ómnibus y si bien el transfer los llevaba, al no tener pesos uruguayos, estaban en un problema. El transfer los llevaba a la ruta gratis, pero no podian tomarse un ómnibus por no tener dinero uruguayo (esto no es problema del hotel directamente pero es una consecuencia) y no había ningún cambio cerca. Una pena que no tengan esto previsto desde el hotel. Tiene muchos amenities, eso es verdad, pero también tienen el problema del mantenimiento muchos de ellos. Quizás el que más nos gustó es la piscina de hormigón exterior, que realmente es muy linda, con un bar en el medio tipo "all inclusive" que a partir de las 11 podías pedir cosas allí desde dentro de la piscina. Pero por ejemplo, tienen un cine que casi no esta habilitado, una zona de juegos (que conecta con la piscina climatizada y sin aire acondicionado jugás un pool y sudas peor que haciendo una hora de aeróbico). Videojuegos que es muy buena la idea, pero mas de la mitad está funcionando mal o apagado.

Con todas estas contras, igual hay algunos puntos a destacar, la comida a la carta es muy rica y el precio es adecuado para Punta del Este, y hay linda variedad. El desayuno es correcto, rico, pero no es "el lujo" que el hotel debería transmitir por su tarifa y nivel. Y finalmente pero no menor, toda la atención del personal es destacable. La verdad que mas allá de que hayan podido o no resolver los problemas (muchas veces no pueden resolver) pero se muestran amables y con ganas de resolver el problema. La lastima es que por mas ganas que le pongan, ya es un tema que les excede a ellos y a veces genera mas enojo a los huéspedes como lo hemos visto. También que les dimos una reseña de este estilo, y nos invitaron otra vez a una habitacion que fue mucho mejor, pero el resto del hotel no cambia.

En resumen, fuimos super ilusionados al hotel, y además porque habíamos tenido referencias por separado que era bueno, pero se ve esa gente o fue antes de la pandemia o hace muchos años, pero hoy en día el hotel se merece una fuerte reestructura y renovación (manteniendo al personal que es una joya) porque de lo contrario no le doy muchos mas años de vida.

En definitiva, no lo recomiendo, no volvería y no vale...

The hotel is BIG with lots of ACTIVITIES for KIDS, so it can get very LOUD and crowded from time to time. We were not able to enjoy the pool because of the amount of kids in it. I think is a very nice place to go with kids, but I would NOT recomend it for just adults. They offer free WIFI and great view and landscape. Its far very far from the city so you would need a car for traveling. Also the staff is incredibly nice and POLITE. Personally I had a really BAD EXPERIENCE in my bed. The sheets had stains and on my first night, something started biting me. The bites seemed to be from flies, but Im not sure. We had to change the sheets in the middle of the night. The maids were polite and very concern with out problem, but in the morning, the administration personnel pay no attention to our problem and did nothing with it.
