Highly recommended - car needed I stayed for two nights at Los Plátanos and felt very welcomed and at ease. The "woman of the house" wasn't in town, so her partner took care of us. English was a bit of a challenge sometimes but it was compensated with loads of passion and service.
Although I hadn't announced to be Vegetarian, it was possible to have a good dinner accordingly, with fresh salad aside. I loved the breakfast and in my room there was always the possibility to make myself tea or coffee.
I also tried the newly installed swimming pool which has a great view over the adjacent fields. I also went on a hiking trip with Andrés and learned a lot about his work with cows but also on the flora and fauna here. I really enjoyed it.
You should like animals because cats and dogs as well as ducks are roaming around freely. The entrance from the main street can easily be overseen, make sure you check on your map before. Google marks it quite correctly. Coming from the north, Google will lead you to the next town in the south to turn around and observe the traffic rules. In reality, you could simply turn left from the...
Read moreWe are a family of 6 - 2 adults and 4 children ages 12-16 from the US. Not every place can comfortably accommodate our large family - Estancia Los Platanos not only had a family set of rooms to accommodate us but the rooms were incredibly comfortable and absolutely perfect. The Estancia has been in Marina’s family for many generations and the home breathes this wonderful history. The children loved playing with the cats and dogs, ‘MyCat’ was their favorite 10 month old kitten. We experienced the wonderful peace and quiet of beautiful Uruguay - we went on a hike/walk down to the stream and had a great horseback ride (as we were mostly beginners with horses it was a real treat - the horses were extremely well trained and gentle). Marina’s dinner and breakfast were amazingly good - all homemade and served from her kitchen. Andres’ tour of the Estancia on horseback was fantastic - we saw an armadillo, ostriches, and of course many cows. Definitely, definitely recommend a stay at Marina and Andres’s estancia - no trip|to Uruguay is complete without seeing the...
Read moreRead moreLocation: in the middle of nowhere, but surrounded by animals like Angus cows, horses, dogs and cats. You can only get there by car.||Room: The farmhouse has 2 old-fashioned decorated bedrooms to offer, therefore the hosts are fully focussed on your needs and desires. The room is equipped with a water heater and a minifridge. For the cold nights they placed a heater in the room. The bathroom was very smelly but at least they had warm water.||Food: I booked full pension and therefore had 3 meals a day. Every menu Marina cooked was absolutely delicious and it always ended with an amazing dessert.||Program: I went 2x horseback riding (for beginners) with Andres and took a cooking class with Marina. But the cooking class was me watching her cooking. I would have preferred to do it myself to really get the hang of it. They also offered tracking tours but I decided to relax in the saloon in front of a fireplace.||If you love animals and being out in nature - this is a MUST...
