We reside part time in Montevideo and when there, we like to plan trips to see other parts of the country. This time, we chose Estancia Pinos de la Quebrada and were not disappointed. ||||The estancia is located in a remote and beautiful area of Uruguay 30km north of Triente y Tres where the vastness of the surroundings will amaze you. The beautiful landscapes meet the sky in all directions and there are no lights to dilute the starry nights. ||||The estancia is located off Ruta 8 about 2km down a 2 track road. Be careful, it is a bit difficult to locate the turnoff from Ruta 8 but it is worth the adventure. Once on the laneway, it is well marked! Pay close attention to the KM markers! ||||The owners have planted 1000's of pine trees, in stark contrast to the surrounding rolling pasture land. The estancia is comprised of a common building, guest building and the pool area. The common building has the dining area and living room with 3 huge fireplaces. The guest rooms are located in a building that looked at one time to be a chapel and the staff rooms. There is also a large pasture with many horses, goats and sheep. ||||We were greeted by Martin, who is congenial and extremely helpful. ||||We enjoyed a very nice breakfast at the estancia of fruits, tostada, assorted meats and cheeses which were very good. We also had Martins chef prepare dinner for us one evening and it was fabulous.....as was the great dessert. ||||This is a wonderful place to visit and relax, enjoy the surroundings, take a hike or have Martin arrange some horseback riding. Remember, it is not a Hyatt but a very unique, tranquil and comfortable property to unwind in a beautiful area...
Read moreWe, two couples, booked a two day stay at the estancia. We were looking for something different and this looked like a good choice, about a half day drive from our homes. ||||The estancia is located about 30 km north of Treinta y Tres, an unremarkable interior Uruguayan city. The biggest local attraction is Quebrada de los Cuevos, the Ravine of the Crows. There is also Laguna Merin, with summer cabins. We were not lucky with the weather, so any ideas of walks or horse rides, or, in fact, a visit to the big local attraction, simply did not happen. However, the buildings, particularly the great room where we spent a lot of time, and the dining room, were wonderful places. The staff built and maintained a roaring fireplace in the great room and there were a vast array of attractions including weights, billiards, ping-pong, an electronic keyboard, games, cards, TV, movies, books, and more. We filled our time and relaxed.||||We also ate dinners at the estancia. We had beef, and excellent potatoes and salad the first evening, and, because we had overeaten a late lunch, pizzas the second night. The cook is good.||||We don´t know what it would be like in the summer, but the Estancia Pinos de la Quebrada served our needs for two cool...
Read moreWe arrived at Pinos de la Quebrada and were welcomed by one of the owners, a smiling lord. The entrance up to the gate suggests a magic stay, alleys of pines, big gate and a charming elegant farm house, a tale like scenery. The house was redone with taste and underlining its original features. Warmth, comfort, delicious food and peaceful surroundings, were the key elements of our stay. Any little wish (hot water, extra coffee, a good bottle of wine, or a salad) were promptly provided. The room, furnished with style, had a balcony and a green view, spacious, classy. The bed is ultra comfy! All good, wonderful, homely. We could have stayed longer, the "estancia", it is so cool... Thanks Rafael for the chats, informations, the philosofical and the life experiences we exchanged. This is certainly a stay to be remembered. Best wishes to you all. We would love to be back or meeting you elsewhere in the world. Inez Azevedo and...
