The best hotel/homestay experience I have ever had in my life. I usually don’t leave reviews, but I am leaving a long one today because of the outstanding experience I had at PIA homestay.
To start, the owner, Vuong, messaged me on whatsapp to ask when we would arrive. I told him we were arriving on the sleeper bus at 5am and he said that it’s okay and we could check in early. He met us very early in the morning and let us in to a beautiful room.
After getting some sleep, we got ready for the day and had a better look around the hotel. The hotel is brand new (built 4 months ago) and is designed and built by the owner, who is an architect. His architecture company office is downstairs next to the reception and tea area. The rooms are upstairs. I think there are 3-4 rooms available, but hard to tell for sure.
The homestay has a modern and warm feel, with many plants and wood features. There is a very elegant “hacienda” style garden in the center of the homestay. The AC and hot water worked great, and the room was clean and comfortable. There is a nice rain shower with good water pressure.
After exploring Cao Bang city on our first day, we returned to the hotel and were invited for tea by Vough. We talked for hours about various philosophical topics, life in Vietnam vs the united states, the state of the world, etc. It was probably the deepest conversation I have had throughout all of my month long tour of SE asia. Through our conversation, I feel that I made a true friend in Vough. He invited us for dinner at his house with his family the next night, which we happily accepted.
The next day we went on a full day tour (6am-6pm) with a tour company to see the waterfall and various caves. After the tour, we went back to the homestay and Vough drove us to his house for dinner. We got to meet Vough’s wife, children, and extended family who had prepared a feast of Vietnamese food for us. We had a great time exchanging stories and sharing delicious food. One of the highlights of my trip!
The next day we rented a new Honda motorbike from Vough and went to see the Angel Eye mountain. Despite some rain, we made it safe and sound on the well paved roads. The bike was high power (150cc), and brand new with a digital dashboard.
After exploring Cao Bang on the motorcycle, we checked out of PIA homestay to return to Hanoi on the sleeper bus. Vough let us check out late, around 19:00, and even waited in the lobby after his work was finished to say goodbye. He gave us a gift of local noodles and a recipe for how to cook them.
I highly recommend PIA Homestay! Vough, please come visit in...
Read moreThis homestay is really top and is in the center of the city! It is in a little cosy house that has been changed and renovated 1 year ago. So everything is new with modern standards. There are 6 rooms. We arrived from Cat Ba island with the sleeping bus and arrived at 4:30 am in Cao Bang. The homestay was within 15 minutes walking distance from the busstop. If you inform the homeostay of this before, they will give you the door code, so you can enter and take your room if already available (a post-it with your name and keycard at the counter), or you wait in the little comun room or kitchen. You can use their comun bathroom to refresh yourself. The rooms and bathroom are very clean. The rooms are not small, with a really confortable bed. The matras was not too hard and not too soft, the best we had in all our travel... even better than some 5 star hotels. And I always have problems with pillows because I hate when they are too soft or too thick and normally I use some clothes or towels as a pillow. This was the first time in years I found a good (of course everybody has own preferences) pillow made of memory foam. I think the owners made a good investment in confortable bedding. Air-conditioning and wifi were very good. For those who want to cook, or just make a coffee, you can use their modern kitchen with 2 big refrigerators and last but not least you can take drinking water from their reverse osmosis machine! What can I say more? Owners very friendly that speak English. We rented a scooter (new and clean). And for those who want, the owner can be your guide for visiting the environment with...
