Wow, Panhou was definitely well worth the long bus ride from Hanoi. It’s situated in an especially beautiful and remote part of Vietnam and definitely fits the description of what you would expect from an Ecolodge. SImply put, it is outh there, and well away from the beaten path.
We loved our stay here. The abundant natural beauty and tranquility was a nice contrast the pulsing chaos of Hanoi. The food is delicious, and the menu varies daily..
The traditional stilt house that we stayed in was very comfortable and we enjoyed the view that looked out across a gorgeous garden. We recommend the bath and massage combo, both are reasonably priced.
We also took the day long trek to visit a Red Daos village in the surrounding mountains. We really enjoyed it. The trek was challenging, but not overly so. It was a really nice cultural exchange. Lei, our tour guide took us to his uncles home where he and his wife prepared a traditional meal. It was quite delicious.
Would highly recommend staying at the Panhou. I would also say that the day hiking trip seems like more than enough, especially since you will probably want to spend the majority of your time at Panhou relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty.
The entire experience was one of, if not the highlight of our...
Read moreWhat a disappointment! Ww were so looking forward to spend our last 2 days of the trip in a nice retreat, but instead of relaxing we ended up more stressed.
The road to the village are under construction, and it was almost impossible to find a taxi to bring us here and we payed 3 time more then the usual price. To have meals in the retreat restaurant(!), which is the only eating option in the area, we had to choose the menu a day before, and when we already set to have our lunch and asked to turn on the heating, the answer was that they turn it on only during dinner, we ended eating with a full winter gear on (coat, hat, scarf). All would have been acceptable if they would communicate it in advance. When we asked to shorten our stay, because of this, the hotel manager said that it's their fault not to tell us that in advance, but they will not refund us the night we want to cancel, although the hotel is completely empty and according to Booking.com policy we are able to do...
Read moreThe place is quiet because separated from the road by a river. The rooms are clean with only minimum equipped. No bedside table, no cupboard. No TV no wifi and mobile signal very weak. There is nowhere to go nearby except for walking on the road. The restaurant is expensive. A dish of Spaghetti Bolognese ridiculously small although listed as main dish. I think nobody will come here twice.
Next meal I ordered scallop. I'm stuck here. There are no other restaurants around. The manager being afraid of online reviews even wanted me to agree to have a video taken of me agreeing to order this (main) dish even after having been shown a picture of its ridiculously small size! He even wanted me to sign a statement to confirm that, which I refused too. The managers manager was involved too. And then the dish was even smaller. I ate it. My issue is not that there are tiny dishes but that they are listed on the menu as main dishes. I...
