Excellent retreat and the staff are super friendly and kind. The location is somewhat idyllic.||The retreat offers dinner which was always tasty and healthy. ||However there are a few small tricks that they are missing out on. Irs these small things that mean it's not possible for me to give the retreat full marks. ||As kind as the staff are, communication is poor. Transport links exist to move around but there's no info in the rooms or reception about it. It's up to the guest to know this and ask about it. ||There are plenty of walks, cycles and day trips available. Again no information provided. It's expected the guests to know the walks and cycles.||A simple information pack per room or at reception would really help.|||The breakfast and dinner was very tasty and healthy, but as a person who is active in sports I was always on the edge of hungry. The portion sizes were simply too small for an active person. ||Also the pricing of the dinner was not competitive for the local area. Other homestays nearby offered fantastic food in portion sizes that didn't leave me hungry.||Also tea and coffee was in short supply. Coffee and tea in the room was replaced every 3 days. Only 2 sachets of coffee given and this takes me a afternoon to chomp through. |||As I said, these are very small things. But if you want top trump marks, you got to get the big and small...

We were a party of 5 that stayed for two nights. We shared a 2 bed and 1 bed room. ||We were welcomed with smiles, excellent service and great energy. ||All meals were healthy, large in portion size, and we're flexible to vegetarian dietary requirements for some of the group.||We hired bicycles for a day, and we were shown around some local rice fields. We reached a point where the host gave us some guidance, and left us to explore and find our own way around which made for a nice adventure. A swim in the clean pool is the perfect refreshing activity after this.||The resort is 15-30 minutes out of Mai Chau town, and accessible by bus. We were happy to stay at the retreat and have a break from the busy Viet streets for a while. ||The amenities are excellent, and seem to be pretty new. Tea, beer and other refreshments were always available. | |Although communication in English wasn't so free-flowing, the use of Google translate and a good attitude went a long way. ||INCREDIBLE value for money, coming from Australia. We will definitely be back when in this neck...

Mai Chau is known for noisy hanoi citizens going there for the weekend to party. We went there for the nature and found lots if it 8 km further in the small village of Hai Son. No partying here, no restaurants either, but the food is great at the retreat and you are welcome to share all meals for a very reasonable price. 4 rooms and 2 dorms around a lovely garden full of flowers and art objects from the summer art classes that are organised there. Very clean, airco, modern bathroom, but no television, as if they could read our minds that we didn’t need one in such a peacefull surrounding with small rice farms where ploughs are driven by buffaloes. Bicycles are available and easy, since there are no steep hills in the valley. If you really want to feel what the countryside is near Hanoi, you should consider this retreat.

We had a wonderful stay at Mai Chau Valley Retreat! The owner was incredibly kind and helpful – he arranged our transfer, showed us around the village, and made sure we had everything we needed. We also really appreciated the chance to do laundry during our trip. The food was excellent, and the tea was simply amazing. The pool was great, and the accommodation was clean with spacious bungalows. The retreat itself is pure tranquility – peaceful, cut off from the noise, and the perfect place to relax and recharge. We would love to come back one day.

We accidentally went there for lunch. We ordered curry with steamed rice-salad. We were very spactical about curry. But it turned out amazing 😍. Just loved it. The owner and his wife, both are very friendly. Since he didn't know English, he communicated with us using Google translator and made sure that we have great food with experience. He also served us vietnamese grapefruit from his garden and it was very delicious. Very amazing place and vibes. Highly recommend if you are in Mai chau!
