Lao Cai Star Hotel — Hotel in Lào Cai

I was on a private tour with my extended family traveling from Ha Noi to Sapa. On our return trip to Hanoi, we stayed 1 night at Lao Cai Star, a 3 star hotel. The room though generously large but was so disgusting, so stinky, full of cigarette smoke odor. The furniture and the floor were spotted with cigarette burn. There was dust on the coffee table. Breakfast was included in the package but there were not that many selections to ingest in the early morning. The staff was very well-mannered. The hotel location is about 10-15 minutes driving to the border of Viet Nam and China.||Since it was only a 1 night layover in Lao Cai, we did not complain about the hygiene and the overall cleanliness condition to the management but we were very displeased and mentioned it to our tour guide. The location was fine in the middle of the town, though we had to walk a few minutes to find restaurants.The biggest disappointment was the buffet breakfast. It only had noodle soup and bread. Most food trays had nothing. The hotel staff said there were only 10 guests so they didn't prepare most breakfast dishes. Some hostels' breakfast could be better than this 4 star hotel.The bathroom had no bathtub which was fine, but the whole place got wet after shower as water leaked from the shower area to the toilet and everywhere.The room smelled quite a bit when we first walked in and the AC system was partially locked so we couldn't change the AC mode.The only positive was the hotel staff was friendly and let us check in...

Checking in process was a hassle, as I booked VIP room, but it registered as a suite. However, staff had good problem solving skills, and one guy offered tea for the trouble. Staff are attentive. Room (suite) is spacious enough for a 4 star. Good selection of drinks provided in the room. One toothpaste was dried out, though. Furniture was old fashioned. Bed was average, pillows not very comfortable. Location was great for entertainment, restaurants, and more. Unfortunately, the suite had poor soundproof design. Hens woke us up at 3am.
