Unprofessional staff and the worst meals ever!

I stayed here for 2 days with my friend from 19-20/06/2024 and momentarily we fancy this place. The view from our room, over the lake and the mountains here was stunning with the sunset. This place made us feel comfortable with the jazz music in the restaurant.

But then, we found a COCKROACH under the towels near a sink. We complained to the manager here and she sent staff to clean up. Then STAFF SUDDENLY OPENED my room without my permission. She threw a cockroach and went out immediately WITHOUT changing other towels until I asked.

The dinner looked so warm and delicious at first. But the dish named “thịt lợn quay mắc mật” with mostly bone and fat. The manager said that the pork in Lang Son was like that.

The next day, we ordered lunch with a roasted chicken named "thịt gà nướng lá mắc mật", and they served us 2 thighs of the factory-farmed chicken. Again, without informing us, they tricked us. The staff who cooked this meal said it was Lang Son's chicken and not a factory-farmed one. When I asked the staff twice, she got ANGRY and YELLED at me. She said "Why you asked too many times?!!" then IGNORED me.

So I would say the staff here are terrible. This place is poorly managed. It seriously needs to be evaluated options for improving general cleanliness. In the end, the manager apologized to us and they didn't count the "2 thighs of factory-farmed chicken" dish. And there was NO apology from the staff at all, and she still had a disrespectful attitude toward us. We had one of the worst experiences in our lives. I wanted to write more but I think it is a...

We stayed for 3 nights here so we could climb in Huu Lung. May Retreat was the highlight of our trip. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The space itself is gorgeous and well-kept, perfect for a relaxing break from the city. Waking up to such peaceful, tranquil surroundings in the morning with a view of the karst was unlike anywhere else we've stayed. It made for a great place to rest after a long day of outdoor climbing.

Ha (our Whatsapp contact for May Retreat) was very responsive throughout our stay and also helped us to arrange a motorbike rental for the 3 days, as well as a taxi back to Hanoi. She frequently checked in to make sure we had everything we needed throughout the stay.

Hoa, the chef and housekeeper was amazing. She was very kind, friendly, and cooked delicious meals. We had no problems communicating with her via Google translate in case we needed anything.
