This the 4th Muong Thanh hotel on our trip, after Moc Chau, Son La, and Dien Bien Phu. Like the one in DBP, this hotel also has a feeling of being older. Also not a separate shower cabin, but a bath you must stand in. The shower head too low and fixed so foreigners have difficulty in having a shower. We had to ask to change rooms, because opposite of our room the people were so impolite very noisy, with keeping their door open. We were transferred to another floor. The next day (we stayed 2 days) 3 rooms opposit6of ours had guests, a group of people knowing each other. So the extremely impolite noise started all over again. The staff is very, very friendly and helpful. I am really happy to have come to know these people. But for the love of your life, or of your trip, stay out of Vietnamese 3-star hotels. I am absolutely not an arrogant kind of person, have in all my life not felt the necessity to stay in 4-star hotels, have slept in nha nghi's all over Vietnam, in rooms with 6 double beds or more in places to visit national parks, I can accept, and be happy, in all kind of situations, but not with impolite shouting, laughing, running, slamming doors, with no consideration for other guests, like me. Now, I am in Aristo in Lao Cai .... To recover and have...
Read moreWe have stayed in this hotel several times. Not sure if there is much else to choose from in Lai Chau, but we have found it OK. This time we stayed one night and got one of the best rooms with a large sitting area, and a nice bedroom with a comfortable bed. All very clean, and wifi OK (although in previous stays, it has been iffy in some rooms). We have always had really nice views out the windows in either direction. Negatives – every time we have stayed there, water from the baths have leaked all over the floor making a swimming pool! Others in our group had the same problem. Get a plumber who knows what he is doing please! Lights in the sitting room and bedroom were barely adequate and several didn’t work. No room safe. There is a lift and stairs, although you need to be careful, not all the stairs are the same height – in many countries this would not comply with building regulations. The restaurant is built over a pond and the food is OK, buffet breakfast is mostly Vietnamese style but includes cereal, croissants, etc – quite adequate. Overall, an adequate place to stay and probably good value at around...
Read moreThis hotel was very disappointing. Although the building initially looks quite impressive the reality is somewhat different. The bedroom was basic with poor lighting, although the bed was comfortable. The bathroom had a bath with no sealant around it and no shower curtain so was like a swamp in a few seconds. There was a big patch of mould on the ceiling and I was very worried about the bathroom heater as everything else was in such poor condition. It seems as though the cheapest of everything was used in the building and it could be so much better if it was properly maintained. The restaurant had an extensive menu but you got the impression that most of it was a fantasy and not available. What we did manage to order was tasty enough and reasonably priced. The waitresses were pleasant enough and the breakfast was adequate and eggs were available. There is nothing around the hotel so you are a...
