Hopefully by the time you go there the road construction will be finished. We spent almost 2 hours traveling about 20Km and the road was really rough in places. It's apparent the road will be great when finished though. We visited in mid December. Temps were about 8C at night. Huts have no heat, but there are plenty of blankets. Mattresses are on the floor, which I dislike, but I actually slept well. The eating area is open air. Food is basic, but there was plenty of it and it was good. Eating next to the firepit was pretty nice actually. People very friendly and eager to please. Not a lot of English spoken here, but everyone seemed to understand what was needed.

Our group had multiple meals at Mr Chu's dining area and i was really glad to see fried omelette was being served. It's a wonderful experience to try traditional Hmong cooking, a rare type of yam root was also used in the soup. Mr Chu was very hospitable, he noticed we were looking at the fruit tree so he climbed up to pluck some ripe peaches for us 😊

Vang A chu is a sturdy man who don't speak English but seems to know your needs if you try to speak or act out what u want! His homestay is among the cleanest and more 'legit' although the water heater system was not constant (heat & flow rate). Stayed 2 nights with meals and overall it's a great experience to live among the Hmong friendly people.

Such a warm and genuine host. I visited about a year ago with a big group — we were heading into the nearby mountains to bring donations to people living in remote areas. Many families there face real hardship. Things we take for granted — warm clothes, hygiene essentials, even shoes for their kids — are sometimes missing.

It was one of those moments that really opens your eyes — and your heart. So please, don’t show up with a sugar-coated, touristy filter. Look deeper. Be present. Not out of pity, but out of compassion. Travel can be powerful — it can connect us, change us, move us — if we allow ourselves...
