In HCMC we hooked up with a two day bike/boat tour of the Mekong Delta through Sinhbalo. We asked them to drop us off in Rach Gia or Ha Tien so we could take the ferry to Phu Quoc. Rach Gia is closer to Can Tho, where we were based for floating markets and surrounding villages, so they put us on a bus there. They booked Hong Yen for us and it worked well! Rach Gia is pretty much a port town-- most tourists are passing to or from Phu Quoc. The hotel was typical of most places in Vietnam-- clean but without much character.||||We walked around a bit to explore the town and find dinner. Nothing too exciting to report. It felt like a place where people live & work, which is fine to experience, but wasn't quite as dynamic as so many other areas in this amazing country. When we woke the following morning we wandered down to breakfast, which was pretty typical. Baguettes & omelets with some coffee. The family preparing breakfast was super nice though. No one spoke much English but they were incredibly attentive. One man kept passing through, turning on fans before anyone said anything, directing me to the WC-- it was very sweet.||||One weird thing about the night's sleep-- our ferry was early so we turned in by 8 or 9 pm. Someone knocked on our door loudly. They didn't speak any English & we waited to hear what was happening. It just felt odd. We then heard lots of knocking around the hall, yelling, and running. It sounded like teenagers playing pranks. We just waited in our room and they settled down later. I'm not sure what happened. Maybe someone was confused and thought their friend was in our room? We were concerned it was a fire or something (thankfully it wasn't) but also weren't sure if it was some type of scam. ||||We asked other folks at breakfast if they'd experienced the same thing and they hadn't. It could have been some fluke. I'd still stay there again, despite the...

Our local tourist agency booked us here. The room and bathroom were clean, lots of warm water. Breakfast was the usual (bread, jam, cheese and fried eggs) but it was include. There was a large(ish) sign at the check in desk that said (in English) "No Prostitutes" but the room had some funny "extras" - lots of mirrors and two photos of scantly clad ladies. They had an English speaking desk person, some English channels on the TV and it wasn't terribly far from "downtown" - maybe a 10...

Even though rooms are big and clean, there is obviously something wrong with this place. If you want to live a "shinning" kind of expérience, this place is for you.. For the rest of us let's be honest : rach gia is just useful to take a (good) boat to phu Quoc and this hotel is just somewhere you can sleep and use a shower for a cheap price. Be inform also that the receptionist does not speak a single word of English or French...
