It’s the only game in town, so you have to grumble and accept it. Is it worth the 1TR3/night? Absolutely not. Are there other hotels like this in the center of Tam Ky City? Sadly not.
Items that need amelioration:
Room comfort, stayed on the 15th floor (1518) which was facing the pool and some municipal buildings. Not much of a view but I’ll take it.
Was provided one card to enter the room (solo traveler) which also switches on the power in the room. Are we really still convinced that this is the right way to be hospitable to guests? No charging my laptop or keeping the room fresh when I’m out, I guess.
Room lacks black out blinds and the room faces the sunrise so be prepared to be jolted out of bed bright and early by that fireball in the sky. Literally. Cover your head with a pillow, it might help.
Bed was completely used. Sitting on the edge of the bed compressed the mattress and boxspring to the ground. Someone must have really had fun on that bed! (I imagine three kids doing the trampoline thing - get your head out of the gutter!)
I realize I’m a giant on the intertubes but such a bed should be able to support a 100kg Adonis without issue. Lesser beds in lesser establishments have tried and succeeded.
Hint: change the bed in room 1518 please! It’s beyond it’s lifespan how.
Windows are cheap single pane, so you can hear people taking downstairs or kids playing at the pool. Plus you can fry some bacon or your skin directly from the sunlight that passes through them.
Internet was completely inoperable for the duration of my stay. None of my devices could connect. (-1 point)
Air conditioner cannot be operated from the bed. You have to get up and go to the door to use it.
Water pressure is quite low in the suite. Can be improved.
Bathroom lighting is a bit dim. You’ll have to rely on natural lighting during the day but forget about fixing your hair/makeup/ascot under these confines at night.
Two bottles (350mL, Dasani) in the room but no clue if those are free. The minibar price list did list a 500mL version. Didn’t want to risk it. Muong Thanh is known to be sort of cheapskate nha que hotel. Last thing I want to happen is an additional charge. (I paid enough!)
Hallways smell like burning garbage as someone has left the door for external access open. Lovely!
In terms of F&B, had the free breakfast.
For a hotel like this, it might be feasible to separate the restaurant into a separate Google listing, as food experiences can negatively affect the hotel rating and vice versa.
Always appreciate the omelette station and the large amount of dishes (despite there being maybe 3 people who came for breakfast) but I can’t believe that the espresso machine is inoperable. How am I supposed to function without coffee? (-1 point)
Items that I thought were great:
Night security lady and night front desk were very friendly and helpful. Staff on the front side are a delight.
Free breakfast! Yay.
Appreciate the price list of what you will be charged if you steal stuff. Gives you the insight into what it costs for some hard to find options in Vietnam. Neat! Plus I can imagine Vietnamese guests stripping the room clean on before checkout. Let’s just lift that flatscreen TV. I’m sure it’s happened before.
Access to the city. Small town. Everything nearby by bike or car. Not really a walkable city.
Overall, it is what it is. 3/5 stars and I’ll be looking much harder for an alternative next time I’m in Tam Ky city (or I’ll just bare the ride to the beachside...
Read moreThis hotel has seen better days. To keep cost low, no AC is turned on in any of the rooms nor public areas such as the restaurants and grand lobby. When we arrived, we had to change rooms (Grand Suite) due black mold in rooms 1723 and 1701. I highly recommend staying in room 1823 which is furnished with plush decor (outdated) and is free of mold. I stayed in Tam Ky with my wife and two toddler/infant daughters to visit family. The area is central in Tam Ky and very easy to move out and about.
Service is great by staff. Front desk staff… Ngoc, huong and lan…were helpful and supported multiple requests from more towels to getting bowls/eating utensils/fruit knife from the kitchen later in the evening. The other staff were quick to support too (Minh and Hao from security) and remained visible in their evening patrols of the hotel. It is evident the staff is doing the...
Read moreJust me and a friend went for the breakfast buffet what you can do for about 100,000 dong the buffet was considered to be Vietnamese in style with a few Western touches to it although the coffee was very cold they forgot to put the Sterno under it as well as most of the food was cold they had a nice so ready to order omelets as well as other stuff that was complimented the buffet but it's important that when you serve hot coffee the coffee is hot I did use the restroom facilities while I was there and on the way to the restroom I noticed the walls were dirty and not too very appealing for someone I did not mention it to staff because I'm sure they know it's there if they walked by it everyday water was not served to me at any time while I was there...
