What a wonderful experience it was to stay at Hong Thai Homestay. Thai and his wife were most hospitable and generous hosts.||If you prefer to be away from the popular tourist destinations, this is the place to come. You will see, experience and hear about life in this part of the Mekong Delta...amazing! ||Mr Thai is passionate about the environment, the Delta and the local people and is more than happy to share his wealth of knowledge and experience.||His 76 year old friend Mr Huong took us on a 3 hour trip... on bikes, in boats, visiting a small coconut candy factory, and to his own home to meet his wife (who gave us a platter of fresh fruit and made tea for us) Such beautiful, kind people ! This excursion with Mr Huong was extra and optional but we were so pleased to have done it and would certainly consider it a must do ! ||Another highlight was Thai's wife's home cooked meals... all included ! Lunch and dinner were always fresh local fish, beautifully cooked and presented. If you're not a big lover of fish...you only need to mention it and you'll be given delicious vegetable dishes.||If you like all the creature comforts of a five star hotel this definitely isn't the place for you... but to experience the charm and hospitality of rural Vietnam (a pond, chooks & fruit trees right outside the open air window)... don't miss out ! ||PS - Keep a look out for Mr Thai's new project "Hong Thai Homestay Riverfront"...looks amazing and not far off...
Read moreThis place is absolutely amazing, and i would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who wants to see the Mekong Delta "off the beaten track".||||When we arrived, we were a little sceptical of the other good reviews. We were initially put in a wooden cabin above the water which was very basic, but Thai (the owner) was very happy to move us to one of the other rooms. The room is still fairly basic, but gave us everything we needed. And the rooms aren't the reason to visit!||||Throughout our stay, Thai was the perfect host - nothing was too much trouble. The food (which is all included in the price) was delicious - freshly cooked fish cooked by Thai's wife. We were also plied with seemingly endless amounts of local fruit from Thai's own gardens.||||Thai arranged tours for us (at additional cost) which were a great way to see the local area, and with very engaging tour guides - ask for Huong's love story and language lessons!||||Thai is currently developing some new accommodation right on the Mekong river, which could be spectacular once completed.||||If you're looking for a luxury hotel, then this isn't the place for you. But if you want to see the real Mekong Delta, with a first class host, then you won't find a...
Read morePerfect local place to stay few days. Very friendly owners. Mr Thai is able and willingly to arrange anything you want (tours, trip, etc) but....
Be careful paying in advance. It might happen you being confronted with an unresponsive guid, This man speaks resonable english. During long boattrip we asked for toilet, he did not stop at some restaurants we saw little later. After continuïng trip for 1 hour he stopped at place with very dirty toilets. This place was also arranged for lunch...which was worst food ever. Cold and very spicy. No taste at all. Little later during heavy rain, this man didn't stop for shelter. He didn't care our luggage getting soaked. He only laughed about it. At moment we arrived at our destination, we immediately made phonecall with Mr Thai and explained what happend. Mr Thai made apologies and returned us some money.
Trips with sleep at homestays are a merry-go-round in Vietnam. One group leaves, another group enters. All are switched between so called friend's homestays. Giving you false feelings being alone. There is nothing local about this.
That said. .... Mr Thai is great...
