TLDR; great homestay and hosts, excellent food, do the motorcycle tour, Mu Cang Chai is amazing.
As a solo traveller, I was initially apprehensive about getting to Mu Cang Chai, let alone the homestay.
Ky (the owner) was incredibly responsive via WhatsApp and helped me organize all of the transport from Hanoi's My Dinh bus station to their door step (sleeper bus and motorcycle taxi). Ky later organized tickets for a local bus for my onwards journey to Sapa. It was all pretty stress free.
Ky also offered a couple of tours. Highly recommend doing a tour on the back of a motorcycle to see the most of the area. Visited in late September in the middle of the harvest, and the rice terraces were unbelievably amazing!!
The homestay itself was spacious and scenic, and the home cooked meals for breakfast and dinner were exceptional. The fried noodles for breakfast had no business being that good.
I also have to take the opportunity to plug Mu Cang Chai a bit. Sure, it's a little harder to get to than somewhere like Sapa, but if you're looking for an authentic experience with ridiculous scenery far away from the hustle and bustle of a tourist hub...check this place out! It is almost criminal that everyone else I met on my Vietnam trip had not heard of this district before.
So if you do decide to visit Mu Cang Chai, I can't recommend this homestay enough...just make sure you bring...

As somebody that does not typically too crowded, it was perfect as even the most crowded and picturesque rice fields only had a max of 20-30 people.||Ky is a wonderful host and he takes great care of all his guests. His English is very good, so it made communication very easy. I would highly recommend the motorcycle tours that he arranges (he personally took us one of the days), as they take you into remote areas that are inaccessible on foot that are gorgeous. ||His wife is a very good cook. My family is vegetarian and they were very accommodating and even offered to cook our meals first so that there was no chance of contamination which we were very grateful for.||Rooms are clean and good. Beds as mentioned by others are hard. ||Highly recommended to both travel to MCC and to stay with Ky at Hmong’s...
