This place is the real deal. A safari experience that feels untouched and remote overlooking the Luangwa River in the Nsefu Sector. Your stay will be centred around daily x2 day and night drives and a walking safari. During which you will enjoy the incredible landscape of South Luangwa National Park. Watch as the landscape changes as you turn every corner. Incredible bird watching and we saw almost every one of the major animals with a few elusive sightings - leopards, lions, elephants, hippos, crocs, wild dogs, zebras, the endemic thornycroft giraffe, buffalos, honey badger, pells fishing owl, you name it! Special shoutout to our guide Jack ‘Sparrow’ ! Extremely knowledgeable, experienced and a funny, wicked sense of humour. We loved our time with Jack and were always learning and laughing. When he says you’ll see a leopard he means it! We noticed he is a local celebrity in the Mfuwe village and you can see why.||While it may be called ‘valley of the leopard’ - I would call it ‘valley of the hippo and elephant’! Large herds of elephants with their babies at this time of year. Be prepared for when they visit you and walk through camp which is a surreal experience. We found the elephants here extremely well accustomed and unbothered by visitors. Hippos everywhere too. Be prepared for the first night - you may find it loud as all the wildlife come out to play! But by the second night you sleep soundly. Or the staff leave a shot of something in your room too 😉 It’s all safe though - the staff are well experienced and walk you to and from your tent where required and always at night. There is also someone patrolling camp 24/7. ||And the service is the cherry on top. Special shoutout to our valet Anderson and the manager Douglas. All the staff are incredible - in addition to Jack above we also had James as our walking safari guide (super knowledgeable again, great sense of humour and calm and kind). Also had Donald pick us up from the airport - the drive from Mfuwe airport to camp is so memorable driving through the village and park - soak it up! The commitment to safety is also unparalleled. Green Safaris really do seem to be the best when you’re out there. Excellent comfortable electric vehicles. The tours are either private or in small groups of 3-4. Special shoutout to our ranger Lazarus - who is there to keep both you and the animals safe. We always felt extremely at ease with all the guides. ||Food is delicious - we loved that the meals were fresh and light but you never went hungry. From the moment we were picked up at the airport by Donald, we knew we were in for another fantastic stay and experience with Green Safaris! We thoroughly enjoyed the drive from the airport through the villages and then into the National park and the camp.|Douglas and Thembe, along with their team, ensured we had the best stay and service at Shawa in late August for three nights.| We enjoyed the staff's warm welcome, complete with singing and dancing, as well as joining in with the after-dinner entertainment during the Zambian food night.|Our luxury tent had everything we needed and was so clean, comfortable and private. Watching all the southern carmine bee-eaters build their colonies in the steep, sandy riverbanks was spectacular. |The weather in late August allowed us to see a large and diverse array of animals, including all the Big Five, such as leopards, which was just incredible.|There are so many hippos, elephants, and their babies.|The diverse landscapes were picturesque.|The national park manages visitor numbers through a system of limited permits, ensuring a high-quality, low-impact experience for both visitors and wildlife. My husband had booked an early 50th Birthday trip to Zambia for me, my dream destination. We luckily chose Green Safaris for all our camps and every one of them surpassed all our expectations|First stop was Shawa.|We were greeted by Donald our ranger for our next 3 nights and he was amazing!|When we arrived at the camp all of the wonderful staff was singing and dancing as we drove up, what a wonderful way to arrive and be greeted.|Thembe was the manager and she was so friendly and was an absolute pleasure to be around. |Kenny our wonderful Butler really took care of us. He took us to our room but there was a herd of elephants blocking our entrance, we were so close to them , fantastic.|Kenny made sure we were safe, so we went for lunch instead.|The meals were wonderful and there is so much food so you never hungry.|Thank you Kenny for spoiling us, you are truly a joy.|The rooms are beautiful and have amazing views, with frequent visits of elephant herds and baboons.|They are kept spotlessly clean|Donald was outstanding and we had the most amazing sightings of Leopards hunting morning and night. We saw a mother with her baby cub drinking by some water.|Donald’s eye sight is ridiculous he can spot anything miles away. We saw EVERYTHING, Including a large pack of wild dogs.
