I’ve been to Africa before, though not often enough to call myself a frequent visitor. But I’ve stayed at several lodges, each with its own charm and strengths. Lolebezi, though—this place does it all, and does it flawlessly. From the stunning accommodations to the incredible dining, from the staff to the guides, every detail was perfect. It was worth every bit of time and effort to reach this gem along the river in Lower Zambezi National Park.
From the first day, when we set off on a leisurely boat ride up the river, it all felt natural, yet somehow orchestrated. The light filtering through the trees, the animals appearing just at the right moment, the Land Cruisers positioned with precision—it was like everything had been waiting for us. It was perfect.
There were thirteen of us—family—ranging in age from nineteen and up, and every single one of us was comfortable and well taken care of, just as you’d expect from a place like Lolebezi. They’ve ironed out every wrinkle.
When we spoke to Chanda (one of the best!) and the other guides about what we hoped to see, we casually mentioned wild dogs, leopards, lions, even joking about the elusive pangolin. By day three, we’d seen everything but the wild dogs (and the Pangolin of course ;) ). So we headed west, still hopeful but content just to soak in the beauty of the landscape. About thirty minutes in, while we were photographing a stunning leopard, we got the call over the radio—the wild dogs were on the move. Suddenly, it was all action: we tucked away loose items, kept our hands inside the vehicle at all times and took off on what can appropriately be called a "Ferrari Safari."
What we saw felt like something out of a dream. Nineteen wild dogs—playing, vocalizing, hunting, feeding, and even resting for a few brief moments. Watching them work together as a pack was incredible, something I’d long hoped to witness.
As for the accommodations, Lolebezi is without equal. There may be one or two fancier lodges out there, but for me, this was exactly right. The rooms were perfect, the lodge itself both expansive and private. And the food? If food is a consideration for you at all, you’ll love it here. My only complaint was that there were almost too many delicious options—it was hard to choose!
At Lolebezi, I felt comfortable. More than that, I felt at home, which is rare. It’s not often that you settle in so quickly, but the team here makes the transition from travel to comfort almost seamless.
We had just come from the Okavango Delta the week before, flying from Maun to Lusaka and then on to smaller aircraft that brought us to the local runway, just a short drive from the lodge.
In short, if you’re thinking about Lolebezi, stop thinking and just go. You...

Read moreThe camp is just simply stunning, blending in with the environment in such a stylish and considered way . The location is fantastic, the staff were all incredibly accommodating and helpful. We had a bit of a storm one day and there was a huge mess for the staff to contend with but they just worked incredibly hard and it was all back to impecable standards so quickly. They made sure everyone was safe and well looked after. These things all add to the experience of a holiday in Africa and it’s why I love it all the more . Our room was spectacular, a few little niggles that you get with a new property but nothing major , just little things like the lock on ur door leading to the connecting corridor didn’t work but I’m sure these are things that will be sorted. It wasn’t a problem as we had friends in the neighbouring suite anyway . The view from our room and waking up to it every morning was incredible. The food was fantastic we just couldn’t fit it all in! We had some great viewings of lions being chased by buffalo , a leopard being chased by baboons , loads of young elephants , porcupine , giraffe , etc etc . James went out of his way to find us the wild dog and we had an amazing sighting of a large pack beginning their hunt, afterwards on our way to our sundowners we came across two leopard sisters! Spectacular photographs with the help of James and his spotting. He was full of really interesting information, you can see he really loves nature and is interested in what he’s learnt which makes it much more enjoyable. Some of the staff are experts at singing and dancing! Chef Martin was on top form and he would accommodate any gluten free diets too . Try the smoothies , they’re great and the short ribs were divine! The aircon was welcome everyday and a dip in the pool in the afternoon heat was needed! Wish this had been a possibility when our children were younger , the connecting rooms and central living room would have been great for us as a family of six. The lower Zambezi never disappoints and we are definitely fans of Lolebezi! Zambia you have outdone yourself yet again! See you...
