This was probably a 3.5 stars, but have rounded it up as my positives below certainly outweigh the downsides. ||Positives: |- great value. We (4 adults) has the riverside cottage, with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, for around $250 USD per night for all of us. The cottage was small, but clean, good mozzie nets over the beds, clean and v good linens, decent mattresses, and air-con /electricity (which we were not expecting)||- lovely pool and view from the pool /eating area||- great staff: think Tyrone and Faye run a tight ship, and we found Jerry and Joseph to be particularly kind and helpful||- v nice little touch to clean every patrons car before they leave for their next journey||Neutral: |- we didn't realise how far away this place is from lower Zambezi park: 2-3 hours drive. So a good stop of place before driving in, but not feasible to travel in each day. Possible to do v nice boat trip from mount Hermon though (just get a quote for fuel first: the guy who took us - not connected with hermon-charged us a ridiculous price for about 25% more fuel than we used)||- pool is quite busy with local visitors during the day. This is no bad thing, just be aware that it might not be too quiet and there may be quite a few kids splashing around. ||Less ideal: |- the place is crawling with insect life, and lack of mozzie nets on windows means the spiders and roaches are v keen to take refuge in the rooms. The upside was that we had fueled fireflies in our room at night too (v pretty), but the flies were tiresome. Appreciate it's not easy to deal with this in the bush, but a little fly and roach spraying in general areas might help a little. ||Overall|- yes the place is a bit tired, but for the price its good value. The staff are really lovely, and we thought overall this was...
Read moreIf you're looking for a remote vacation in the African bush, this is the place. Unlike many other safari lodges, this place was affordable and upfront with pricing. Everything a la cart and really easy to arrange. We saved a ton of money staying here over an all inclusive lodge. ||We stayed for two nights - the cottage was spacious, comfortable and had a great view. The cottages have AC, full kitchen and indoor shower/bath. We ||took a boat tour right from the lodge on the Kafue River - we saw crocodiles and hippos. We also did a self drive in Lower Zambezi National Park with a hired guide from the lodge. This place is pretty far from the park, but well worth the remoteness. ||The staff was friendly, attentive and eager to make sure...
Read moreThe staff are very friendly and helpful at Mount Hermon, but this would not be enough to entice me back. The cottages are small, basic and rather shoddily finished. They are comfortable enough, but not the level they sell themselves to be. The lodge is also not in a great location as it is in an area of the game management area which is mainly inhabited, meaning there are no animals and it is a long way from the park. However, they do organise day trips there, which we did not go on, but sounded good and popular, although long and tiring. The location is more in the village than in the wild. The view is lovely, but have been to nicer places nearby and closer...
