I recently had the pleasure of visiting Caribbea Bay Resort, and let me tell you, it was an experience like no other! Situated right on the edge of Lake Kariba, this luxurious lakeside retreat offers breathtaking views, world-class amenities, and a unique Mediterranean vibe that completely swept me away.
The highlight for me was the stunning view of Lake Kariba. Waking up to the serene waters and witnessing the spectacular sunsets every evening was magical. The resortās location is perfect for anyone looking to relax while immersing themselves in natureās beauty.
The two large swimming pools were a definite plus ā perfect for lounging with a drink in hand, and the kidsā pool ensured families had their share of fun too. The poolside ambiance, combined with the lush surroundings, created an ideal spot for unwinding.
One of my favorite moments was dining at the terrace restaurant. The blend of local flavors and international cuisine, paired with panoramic views of the lake, was simply unforgettable. Every meal felt like a celebration of taste and scenery.
Beyond the relaxation, the resort offers so much to do! I loved the beach volleyball and the supertube waterslide, which added a playful energy to the otherwise tranquil atmosphere. For the history buff in me, learning about the local Tonga culture and the legend of Nyaminyami during the Kariba Dam tour was fascinating.
The Mediterranean-inspired architecture gave the resort a distinct charm, making me feel like Iād stepped into another world. The attention to detail in the rooms and public spaces showcased the resortās commitment to luxury and comfort.
Getting to the resort was easy and stress-free. Itās just a 3.5-hour drive from Harare or a short trip from Kariba Airport, making it incredibly accessible for both local and international travelers.
Caribbea Bay Resort is a perfect blend of adventure, luxury, and natural beauty. Whether you're traveling with family, your significant other, or even solo, this lakeside gem has something for everyone. My stay here was nothing short of exceptional, and I canāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe stayed over New Year, and really loved the romantic setting of the resort, the fishing + bird-watching opportunities, or just chilling out by the pool or near our room. I caught my first 4 fish ever (a real thrill) and deepened my tan. The room's aren't lavish, but the mosquito nets work and the beds are quite comfortable, (although some rooms nearer neighbouring properties have to suffer the noise of their big generator). The scenery is truly magnificent and the waiters and game-drivers are really kind and helpful. ||||The problem is, the owner hasn't invested in the place and the staff are demoralised. The generator is too small for a resort with over a dozen chalets, and the chalets themselves need an upgrade. The gardens are over-grown and (as if by magic...) a gardener only appeared on the day the owner's daughter came to stay... The game-drive truck broke down once with teenagers having to walk back through the bush where lions are, as did the boat. The chef went AWOL on New Year's eve and the chap who had been on his feet all day cooking had to be brought back... To be fair, he and his team produced a fabulous spread but it was clear that it was all touch and go for a while. ||||The staff deserve much MUCH more support from the owners than they get currently, and much more money to help turn what is a beautifully located resort into the perfect...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA great location in the middle of the Lake with staff that are really trying, but like many Zimbabwean destinations, the place is run down. Being in the middle of the lake the transfers across are costly and need to be undertaken in a proper lake going vessel given the huge expanse of water and waves. Gardens are overgrown and there is no attempt to keep them. We found a snake at the pool side and a wolf spider inside our mozzie net. Facilities are run down with no proper bar area. The pool was in a good condition. Meals were really great and the staff have to be complimented here for trying very hard. Breakfast was a bit of a disaster having to continuously ask for butter, toast and hot water. Why not make use of large flasks? Very little game to be seen on the game drive and the vehicle was also broken down. Beds comfortable and offered a good nights sleep. Mozzie nets had holes in them, had to fix the toilet cistern to stop it running, no hot water. Power is supplied at night by a generator and can be noisy. Sad to see the place sliding and can appreciate that things are tough, so they are hanging on by a limb. Would recommend the place, but then know what you are getting and don't expect more. My personal opinion is that if I am paying a substantial amount for the accommodation, then I expect the full worth...
