Hindu Temples in Afghanistan
Asamai Temple (Kabul) – Oldest Hindu temple in Afghanistan (over 4,000 years old), dedicated to Goddess Asamai (Durga). Survived Islamic conquests and wars; still serves the small Hindu community in Kabul.
Shiva Temple (Jalalabad) – A historic Lord Shiva temple, once a major pilgrimage site for Afghan Hindus, now in decline due to migration and political instability.
Shri Ram Mandir (Kabul) – Dedicated to Lord Rama, one of the few surviving Hindu temples in Afghanistan, mostly abandoned after the Taliban era.
Shri Durga Mandir (Kandahar) – A temple dedicated to Goddess Durga, historically significant but now in ruins due to years of conflict.
Sikh Gurdwaras in Afghanistan
Gurdwara Karte Parwan (Kabul) – Most important Sikh shrine in Afghanistan, built in the 16th century to commemorate Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s visit. Still operational but under threat due to attacks.
Gurdwara Bhai Nand Lal (Ghazni) – Built in memory of Bhai Nand Lal, a poet and disciple of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Mostly abandoned due to Sikh migration.
Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar (Jalalabad) – Established to honor Guru Nanak’s visit, once a major religious site for Afghan Sikhs, now rarely used.
Gurdwara Baba Sri Chand (Kabul) – Dedicated to Baba Sri Chand, Guru Nanak’s son and leader of the Udasi sect. Largely abandoned today.
Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh (Kandahar) – Historical Sikh shrine, now in ruins, as most Sikhs have left the region.
Gurdwara Guru Arjan Dev (Kabul) – A lesser-known Gurdwara dedicated to Guru Arjan Dev Ji, now non-functional.
