While this airport was a pleasure to arrive to (we got our bags within 5 minutes after getting off the plane, so the baggage handling staff works very efficiently), but leaving from the airport is a total chaos, both for check-in as for security check. We queued up for the security check in one of the most disorganised waiting line zigzagging through the seats in the overcrowded waiting lobby, only to be told when we got at the security check that it was not our turn yet to go through the security check. Two minutes later, they announced that our flight was now allowed to go through the security check, which meant queueing up again. At the security check, only one of two x-ray machines was in use. We were not allowed to use the plastic bins. The whole thing did in the end not take too much time but just being in this airport is not a nice experience because of this overwhelming feeling of disorganisation and chaos. Luckily, it seems that they are building a new terminal, so improvement is hopefully on the way. On the positive side: the wifi here is one of the fastest I've encountered...
Read moreA strange airport. Here, a woman in a uniform sitting in front of the security check decides whether you will get to the gates or sit on the ground and wait until she takes pity and lets you in. Her argument that your plane is late and that's why you will wait outside is really ridiculous. I wanted to visit the lounge that is after the security check and she only let me in when I asked the manager. The entire airport is substandard. On the website they warn you to be at the airport 3 hours before departure, but if your plane is late, check-in is not done at the standard time, but they let you wait before check-in without any information when it will start. The lounge by AMAE is also as if they didn't even expect anyone to come. No hot food, just snacks. There is no cutlery and the staff pretends that there are no forks this month. So I eat with my hands. For the money I pay for Priority Pass, it wasn't worth it. Since I'm writing this in English, there's a very small chance that someone from the airport administration will read it. Nobody here...
Read moreA sweet little airport, Brightly lit with lots of spots for families, including a reading library for the kids and a play area at the terminals. Security is very easy. They do not make you take off your shoes or take out your liquids or take out your computer like in the US. This really speeds things along! Three are a couple of scattered restaurants at that gates and a couple before you enter. Plenty for Six gates. My only issue is that the gate agent was unable to read our boarding pass, perhaps because it was electronic and not printed out? He was really struggling with it, and I’m not sure why. Once we boarded the plane, the flight attendant came and double checked that we were in the correct seats. I don’t know if this is an issue with the airport or with the airline, but it seems a little odd that they would give us an electronic boarding pass that they had a hard time reading. Other than that, lots of bright sunlight, and it’s wonderful that they have areas for the kids. Oh, and the bano de damas...
