Սուրբ խաչ բազիլիկ եկեղեցին քրիստոնական ամենավաղ կառուցված տաճարներից մեկն է Հայաստանում - կառուցվել է 4-5-րդ դարերին։ Այդ հնության շատ քիչ տաճարներ են պահպանվել։ Չնայած եկեղեցին զուրկ է ուշ միջնադարյան գմբեթավոր եկեղեցիների շքեղ հարդարանքից, բայց հաշվի առնելով կառուցման ժամանակաշրջանը, իրենից արտակարգ հետաքրքրություն է ներկայացնում։
