I’ve live in Blackwood, right in the middle of the Lerderderg State Park,on and off for nearly 40 years. I remember when I first arrived on my Harley Davidson, the town was as rough around the edges as I was. Over time Blackwood and I both mellowed and became gentrified and sophisticated. The Wombat State forest is a beautiful place and one of the last remaining parts of the world where a mobile phone does one no good at all. One however needs a 4WD car, for all those unpaved roads and I must recommend an Audi Quattro.

Crazy fun wheeling to be had on a maze of 4x4 tracks that are not too hecktic but you can still have a ripper of a time!

Tracks were very wet and sloshy on top but firm underneath. Loads of firewood lying around easily accessible.

Great place to take a drive through the forest. We saw a short-beaked echidna, eastern grey kangaroos, wallabies, cockatoos, corellas, crimson rosellas, currawons, kookaburras, superb fairy wrens, robins...the place was quiet, apart from the sound of the wind blowing through the trees and the birds. The Corner track is an AWD track (easy). It has a good base of gravel and no deep ruts. I would recommend a 4WD in wet...
