Lota Takeaway — Local services in Brisbane City

This is the worst fish and chips I think I've ever had. I do not understand the 4 & 5 star reviews. Typically we'd go to Pelican's Nest but we are Lota locals and thought we'd support a shop at the quieter end of the esplanade. From the moment we opened the paper, we could see that everything was overcooked, dark and burnt. There was no seasoning on anything. The crumb on the fish tasted like cardboard and the fish was tasteless. The same thing with the potato scallops and sea scallops. I was so angry I wanted to return to the store and show them but like my husband said "What's the point? They were happy to wrap that up and serve it, they know what it looks like." We've had a few trips to Lota Takeaway... always good! It's not in the busiest part of the bayside waterfront, so it's usually not as packed as some of the flashier places, but the quality is pretty darn good. We ordered, and parked ourselves at a table out front with a nice view over the water. We had just basic fish'n'chips with some calamari on the side. I reckon some of the other fish'n'chipperies should take note from them... their chips are awesome. The fish was also nicely cooked, and the calamari was melt in your mouth tender. My recommendation: drive past the flash joints, and try the Lota takeaway for your next...

Our local fish and chip shop had closed few years ago and after trying many places around the Cannon Hill and Tingalpa area, we just couldn’t find a fish and chip shop with great food at a good price. Anyway, this Good Friday, we went to the Lota Takeaway and it was excellent. Even though there were many people, our order was delivered in reasonable time and the food was great. The crumb on the fish was fresh (I’m assuming shop made) and the chips were fluffy and hot. We’ll definitely be coming here again. The photo does not...
