Just made it to the 2PM tour. It is all about gum trees. Currency Creek Arboretum is privately owned, large collection of Eucalyptus, including rare ones, that is also a research facility. Trees are planted in long parallel rows, looking like an uneven plantation that grows into a varied, open woodland over the decades. The tour is a walk around the property, stopping at trees that are unique in some way or are an example for the topic. We heard about the history of the arboretum, the lifecycle of an Eucalyptus tree, how to plant and care for a gum tree, taxonomy and landscaping and other commercial use - quite comprehensive. There are nice views from the top of the hill as well. After the tour I bought one of the books on display, written by our guide and Eucalyptus expert Dean Nicolle. It was an enjoyable and busy afternoon, listening to the stories, staying back taking photos and catching up to the group.
