Worth exploring slowly, on foot and by reading the interpretative signs to understand how the hilltop figured in Canberra's history and its current value in astronomy. The burnt out telescope building from bushfires remind us the tenuous grasp we have on the land. Looking out in all directions, you can see the new suburbs growing. The hilltop is also a favourite road cycling finish and the head of two of the most popular Canberra cycle downhills so expect to drive slowly to the parking at the top on weekends.

I'm a PhD student up here, and coming up here everyday to do work makes the long trip worth it. As a general place for those not working here, the views are stunning, with a great mountain bike track that takes you down to the bottom. It's free to come up here all days of the week, though note past 6pm the boom-gates close, so make sure you plan ahead.

My Stromlo was destroyed by bushfire but new research facilities have risen from its ashes. The ruined observatories and home have been turned to a worthy monument to the many astronomers and physicists who contributed to our knowledge of the universe.

Premier mountain biking trails, road racing grand prix (?) Track, cross country running and horse riding. I can speak volumes on the mountain biking trails which are of an international standard. A playground with skinnies and seasaws for skills development, cross country, all mountain, enduro and downhill tracks. From the interested beginner through to seasoned expert there is something for everyone to hold interest over and over again. There is a shuttle service run by Mic Longhurst and a yet to be opened but already constructed pump track. A site has been built for retail recently although for the moment no-one has opened anything. Although the immense popularity (2 dozen riders leaving at 7am this morning!) It remains very friendly and doesn't feel congested due to the wide range of trail options. See you...
