Small but lovely campsite on the island (need to book) with very modern and pretty flash amenities block and BBQ area. There is also (somewhat randomly) a small cafe that runs Thurs-Sun only, presumably to cater for day trippers. We were the only people camping when we visited but it was off season (Mid November). There is a track up to the top of Mount Kootaloo which is well worth it - about an hour to the top and you can continue on the half-island walk which takes about 3hrs total. Beaches, rainforest with an abandoned resort thrown in as well - what more could you ask for?    Read moreI've never ever gone there sadly but I do remember the old television advertisements though and apparently Dunk Island was an 1980's mainstay resort at one time all the way to 1988 I think?! I think that now it's probably still alright but probably nowhere near as good as it used to be over 32 years ago (but what is?!) but there is talk about bringing it back to its former glory and why not when people should travel local and make Dunk Island not good but...
   Read moreYou can still stay at Dunk Island admittedly only camping as Cyclone Yasi destroyed the resort in 2011 as mentioned in a previous review. There is a water taxi from Mission Beach running most days so you can easily get there. There are lovely beaches, great snorkeling, a nice walk around the island and since the resort is not open it is quite quiet on the island. Would recommend a day trip over if in Mission Beach.
