An untouched beauty. About an hour's drive from Nelson Bay this easy hike is well worth it. This is not an attraction but more like a simple hike from the road through the dunes to the water. I would guess it's a ten minute hike from the road. Some portions up and down the dunes might be a little difficult for those who have troubles walking in sand or up / down steep surfaces. This was well worth it though to see the dunes and beach ,(see pictures). When we were there there wasn't a sole in sight and one one other set of tracks in the dunes, very cool.

We discovered this more or less by accident, while driving Mungo Brush Road near Hawks Nest. The parking for Dark Point is about 20 minute drive from Hawks Nest. Then a short path leads you to these amazing sand dunes. If you have kids that are keen to try a ride down the dunes, bring an old Body Board or possibly an air bed. We were unprepared and tried our car sunscreen protector, but that didn’t work. This place is also great for photographers as it is so close to Hawks Nest. I managed to go and see the sunrise while the rest was still snoozing.

Sand dunes as far as the eye can see and such a surprise when walking in here from the car park. Only for the physically fit as the dunes can be tiring and some are quite steep. It's about 800m to the beach and Dark Point. It was a special place and I can see why it was so revered by the local Aboriginals.
