Nocton Vineyard was part of a three-vineyard wine tour we took during our recent Tasmania trip. Often, the middle part of the experience is the letdown - what we in the trade call the "second-act slump". (Which trade, I hear you ask? Shoosh.)
Well hear me now.
There was no second-act slump. There was no second act. I can't even remember the other vineyards we visited.
Which isn't to say the other vineyards weren't lovely places, with delectable drops. Or that we had didn't have a wee too many drams, which we did. But I totally assure you my memory is sharp as a razor. (...or is it?)
It's only to say that the experience we had at Nocton Vineyard was transcendental. Sublime. Inevitable, almost. The view from their tasting deck, the wines they offer, and most importantly our hostess: the stunning, witty, hilarious, rapier-witted, scathing, endearing, brilliant, indelible, utterly superb Laura (surname unknown - and it's better that way), were absolutely second-to-none. Yes, the wine was top-tier. Yes, we bought the most bottles from Nocton out of any of the vineyards we visited. But above and beyond that: Laura. By golly. She ensured we had such a blast at our tasting that I doubt any service person will ever match her industry knowledge, her passion, her sense of humour, and her incomparable way with words.
Nah, you did good, L-Rad. Should've come on the last leg of the tour with us, but other than that, we couldn't have asked for more.
Anyway - are you still reading this review, Google user? Really? Why? I think you've wasted enough time. Go book a tasting at Nocton. Failing that, buy a bottle of their Reserve Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Rosé. We did. And obviously we're...

From the moment we arrived at Nocton Vineyard, we were wrapped in the kind of welcome that stays with you long after you leave. This isnât just a winery, itâs a place that breathes soul into every bottle, and that soul has a name: Laura.
Laura is one of those rare people whose warmth, wit and deep knowledge of wine turns a simple tasting into something magical. You feel like a friend, not just a guest. She pours stories as generously as she pours wine, each glass rich with heritage, passion and a touch of cheeky charm. Her genuine hospitality is the heart of this vineyard and sets Nocton apart in the most unforgettable way.
And the wines? Divine. A perfect reflection of the cool-climate region, each vintage is crafted with care and character. From the elegant Pinot Noir to the vibrant Sauvignon Blanc, every sip sings. The vineyard itself is nestled in the rolling hills of the Coal River Valley, offering a picture-perfect backdrop that feels like it is straight out of a postcard.
If you are travelling through Tasmania and only visit one winery, make it Nocton. And if you are lucky enough to meet Laura, consider it a highlight of your trip. We came for the wine, but we will be returning for the warmth, the laughter and the beautiful spirit of this special place.

Itâs the kind of place where you can truly unwind, take in the beautiful surroundings, and just enjoy great wine without any pretense.
The highlightâbesides the fantastic wineâwas the delicious cheese plate. Perfectly paired with our tastings, it added such a nice touch to the experience. Every bite was a treat, and it made us want to linger just a little longer.
And then there was Lauraâwhat an incredible host! She was warm, engaging, and so passionate about the wines. She made us feel like old friends rather than just visitors passing through. Her knowledge, enthusiasm, and genuine hospitality made the experience unforgettable.
