We drove up to the end of the Stony Top track and hiked from there to the summit of Mount Feathertop which is about 9 km return and took us about 3.5 hours return. The end of the Stony Top track is closed during winter (opens early November). You need a 4WD or a AWD with decent clearance to drive the track, specially the last 2km of the track. Easy enough hike, it does get quite steep at the end but absolutely stunning and beautiful on a nice day. Recommended to take some insect repellant for the millions of black ants that try to climb your feet/legs everytime you stop and there are lots of small flies right at the summit, don't let this stop you.

Started in Harrietville and ascended via Bungalow Spur Track, stayed one night to then descend via the NorthWest Ridge. Harder loop for those wanting something a little more challenging than the razorback route. Got super lucky with the weather having clear skies for the glorious sunrise from the peak after a short walk up from Federation Hut. Highly recommended no matter which way you decide to come in. Springs in area were not hard to find and had plenty enough flow to capture some water, being a busy weekend the tank at the hut was practically dry so wouldn't be relying on it.

Amazing hike with truely some of the best views in Victoria (by far the best hike!) It was definitely challenging doing it in one day (but totally possible). Started at 9:30am from Diamantina Hut, reached the summit at 12:30pm, and finished at 5pm back to the hut. It can get quite steep and the terrain is uneven (with lots of stacked rocks), would highly recommend hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes. We came during the summer and even at 16 degrees, the flies and lots of insects was out. Would suggest bringing insect spray and plenty of water.

Very easy, wonderful hike. Perfect for newbs or people looking for a relaxed mountain hike. The track quality is fantastic. Nice and wide, well made, couple trees had recently fallen over but that was it.

I started from Harrietsville. The grade of the entire hike is a relatively gentle uphill the entire way. Look on google maps, see the parking lot, look up to the track. That's the grade for 10-11 ks until you reach the hut. From the hut to the summit is a little steeper, but nothing particularly difficult. There's a couple steps, some trees to step over, but nothing more technical than that. You could skip down it if you wanted to.

Still be afraid of it, it's a Mountain and it is dangerous. Respect the mountain and fear it. That said I've done probably a dozen of these 1,000 metre+ hikes. This is by far the gentlest of those. It's a fantastic first hike for anyone interested in mountain hiking and a great hike for anyone who likes mountain...
