Yarra Valley Custom Meats — Local services in Melbourne

Decided to try them out from the many great reviews on the Yarra Valley Noticeboard on Facebook. It was a nice drive out there and the staff were very talkative.....with other staff members. I was waiting at the counter to pay for my items while all the ladies were having a committee meeting about god knows what. One of the blokes out the back had to break them up to serve me. Was told I’d be back as they’re the best sausages within 100kms. Well, I can confirm that they certainly are not. The honey bbq smelt awesome while cooking and tasted okay but were rubbery and tuff and certainly not worth the $12.50 per kilo price tag. I had to use a steak knife to cut through them with any ease. $6 per kilo Coles snags are so much nicer than this overpriced product. I’m sure their other products are half decent but I’m not doing another 50km round trip to find out. Very disappointed, won’t be back and won’t recommend to anyone...

Extremely disappointed with the scotch fillet I recently bought from Yarra Valley Custom Meats and even more disappointed with the way the complaint was handled. When I pay $36/kg I expect prime meat, not something that's on a par with supermarket budget rump! The steak was cooked perfectly, but had to be sawn apart with sharp steak knives and was really hard to chew. When I brought this up with he owner, l was first asked for photographic evidence.....seriously!!!! I'm not usually one to photograph my food. Then I was told that "NEVER in our 4 years have we had such a complaint", making me out to be an idiot. Maybe they need to look back at previous reviews. I will NEVER be going back after this. I hope they think $20 worth of tough meat was worth this...

I bought the whole pig for our traditional festive and instructed them to specifically clean it but don't cut it. I was surprised they cut the head off and removed the entire belly, ribs and loin which are the most flavoursome and expensive part of the pig. When asked, she blamed abattoir for removing the parts and it is out of her control then hung up. I paid $400 dollars for a pig that is totally useless. One star is too high rating for them. Never buy from them again. If you planning to buy from them don't put any deposit. If you buy pork belly & ribs from them, enjoy it because that is the missing...
