Katherine Gorge is stunning but the maps/signposting is chaotic. Sadly the signs on the ground almost never matched the map we were given at the tourist centre nor the map in the Avenza app. Some examples: We met a helpful guide at Notmiluk Centre and decided from the map he had that we wanted to do the (Green) Waleka Walk (Windolf Walk). Unfortunately as soon as we walked outside the green signs were marked as Jalkwarak. Cannot find any mention of Jalkwarak on the map. Then when we checked the paper map more closely and found it hard to identify the colours of the walk since the trails are all marked with white dots with a faint hint of a colour even though in the Legend the colours are clear. Cannot really make out for example where the Green trail is on the map. A strong green line would work wonders…. When we were walking around the blue trail (Yanbi walk) there were yellow arrows to the Lookout and when we continued the loop around the yellow arrows disappeared and there were very few markers Back to the Avenza Map - this was clear though as far as we can tell we were doing the blue map in the app labelled as “Baruwei/Jalete” as opposed to “Yambi walk” as marked on the paper copy. Sometimes there were very well built sign markers (shown) and the rest of the time there were no signs to be seen. The coloured arrows should start the minute you leave the Nitmuluk centre. Would be better to have 5000 little arrows making it clear where to go than a couple of dozen sturdy steel signposts….

Having been to a number of other parks in the NT that use the Avenza app with clear arrows on the ground were much better than the dog breakfast at Katherine Gorge. It really spoiled our walk….

Einer der schönsten Orte auf Mutter Gottes Erde.

Wir sind mit dem Helikopter drüber geflogen, haben alle moglichen Tiere und Krokodile am Fluss gesehen.

"Kleine Randbemerkung: BLEIBT VOM WASSER WEG‼️ GEHT DORT UNTER GAR KEINEN UMSTÄNDEN SCHWIMMEN‼️

Sie sind dort - auch wenn man sie nicht immer sieht - und lauern auf uns MENSCHEN...

Auch eine Bootstour haben wir gemacht. Atemberaubende Gegend. Es war sehr heiß, aber wunderschön. Ein Erlebnis, das man nie wieder vergisst.

LASST NIEMALS ARME ODER BEINE ÜBER DEN BOOTSRAND BAUMELN‼️ SIE SIND SCHNELLER WEG, ALS IHR GUCKEN KÖNNT‼️ +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ One of the most beautiful places on Mother God's Earth.

We flew over it in the helicopter and saw all kinds of animals and crocodiles on the river. "Little side note: STAY AWAY FROM THE WATER‼️ UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO YOU SWIM IN THERE‼️ They are there - even if you don't always see them - and are lurking for us HUMANS...

We also took a boat tour. Stunning area. It was very hot, but beautiful. An experience that you will never forget.

NEVER DANGLE YOUR ARMS OR LEGS OVER THE SIDE OF THE BOAT‼️ THEY ARE GONE FASTER THAN YOU CAN...

Part 1! See below for more 👇 Our favourite of all: 1) Jim Jim Falls 4wd only! Huge hike over boulders to get there but the most spectacular waterfall ever. Only open 6 months of the year for safety reasons (dry season). In the wet season you can fly over in a scenic flight to see the waterfall in full flow. There's a camp nearby book online/call. 2) Edith Falls There's a bunch of options with visiting many different swimming holes. Located within Nitmiluk National Park. Great swimming wear sun protection. 3) Katherine Gorge and Nitmiluk National Park. So many swimming holes here! Some aren't croc protected so we recommend the kayak tour and we swam in the fourth gorge so beautiful. This Gorge is incredible and the famous 6 day Jatbula trail leaves from here and ends at Edith Falls! 4) One of the best swimming hot Springs in Aus, Bitter Springs 🥰💫🙌 do not miss it and keep an eye out for the flying foxes. Campsite nearby. Spend at least a night, if not two! . . . #swimmingholes #rockpools #northernterritory #thisisthent #cuinthent #nitmiluknationalpark #katherinegorge #jimjimfalls #naturalpools #explorent #discoveraustralia #visitnt

We ran out of time to do all the trails, but we were able to do the first look out at approx 2pm which is close to the carpark near the boat ramp where the tours depart. It’s a short 2km return, easy enough although there are a lot of stairs to get to the top. Absolutely stunning views, we will return and do a boat cruise next time! Recommend.
