If you luv your history, this place is well worth seeing, it has been a ' bucket list' thing for me for many years, i luv historical places, especially old sheep & cattle stations, also i luv to photograph interesting old car wrecks, of which Koonalda homestead has many. It can be difficult to find, and the gravel road pretty rugged, but take your time, and you will be fine. 99Km from Nullabor roadhouse, turn right into Nullabor National Park, Koonalda homestead is 19 km in off the hwy. You can camp out there, there is a bush toilet, please take your rubbish home,( no bins) and leave the place tidy, we are fed up with filthy pigs leaving their rubbish and toilet paper in the bush, and most of the time there is a bin right...

Being on the old unsealed Eyre Hwy, and also being an old roadhouse, there's lots of old car and truck wrecks to have a look at.
The old homestead and outbuilding are externally lined with railway sleepers and are pretty much intact as they would have been when the last family left.
There's fresh water available from a couple of rainwater tanks and there's a solid long drop dunny which should survive if you were caught short in a cyclone.
A few k's north is the cave system which is undergoing some improvements as far as 'look outs' are concerned.
