Crazy place but so interesting. All set up for official and free camping with designated sites and a decent bush toilet. No signposting from the highway so need to rely on Google Maps. Homestead is a little eerie but the cars are interesting. The wildlife was fantastic.

Definitely worth a stop over, toilets were clean enough and plenty to look at, only reason for the 4 stars was the road in was terrible but you do get warned about to, take it very slowly or risk rattling you car and van to pieces

Great stop over for the night. Historic land mark. Drop toilet available - enjoyed the surroundings. Very peaceful- must be self sufficient. Unsealed roads for about 15kms. We were there mid September

If you luv your history, this place is well worth seeing, it has been a ' bucket list' thing for me for many years, i luv historical places, especially old sheep & cattle stations, also i luv to photograph interesting old car wrecks, of which Koonalda homestead has many. It can be difficult to find, and the gravel road pretty rugged, but take your time, and you will be fine. 99Km from Nullabor roadhouse, turn right into Nullabor National Park, Koonalda homestead is 19 km in off the hwy. You can camp out there, there is a bush toilet, please take your rubbish home,( no bins) and leave the place tidy, we are fed up with filthy pigs leaving their rubbish and toilet paper in the bush, and most of the time there is a bin right...

A great oasis in the desert!

Being on the old unsealed Eyre Hwy, and also being an old roadhouse, there's lots of old car and truck wrecks to have a look at.

The old homestead and outbuilding are externally lined with railway sleepers and are pretty much intact as they would have been when the last family left.

There's fresh water available from a couple of rainwater tanks and there's a solid long drop dunny which should survive if you were caught short in a cyclone.

A few k's north is the cave system which is undergoing some improvements as far as 'look outs' are concerned.

There are wombat burrows around as well, which, for someone from WA, is...
