The final stop on our tour, courtesy of Trailhopper, an amazing end to a magical day…

🍸 Five-Star Review: Gin-uinely Glorious Mayhem at Maggie Beer’s

If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to sip liquid sunshine while surrounded by rolling hills, gourmet delights, and the faint sound of your dignity slipping away with each pour—welcome to the gin tasting at Maggie Beer’s. Five stars, no notes (except the botanical ones).

🌿 The Setting Maggie Beer’s estate is like stepping into a foodie’s fever dream: olive groves, orchard views, and a shop so full of delicious distractions you’ll forget why you came. But then—ah yes—the gin. Nestled in a cozy corner of this culinary wonderland is the tasting room, where juniper magic happens and your taste buds go on a spiritual retreat.

🍸 The Gin Flight We were presented with a lineup of gins so beautiful I briefly considered naming them and starting a family.

• The Grande Dame Gin was like being slapped (gently) by a Rosemary branch, sprinkled with dried pears. Light, savoury, flavoursome, and dangerously drinkable. • The Farmer Gin tasted like a walk through the outback with a very sophisticated kangaroo. Earthy, herbal, and made me say “mmm” far too loudly. It’s what happens when gin and wine have a passionate affair and decide to raise a bottle together. • The Rembrandt’s Wife Vodka? A revelation, Ledomg to one of the smoothest Expresso Martini’s I’ve ever tasted.

Each was paired with a garnish, and a story—delivered by a host who clearly loves gin more than most people love their pets. (And honestly, same.)

💬 Final Thoughts This tasting was less “a casual afternoon” and more “a full-blown personality transformation.” I arrived a newbie inexperienced gin taster and left a botanical evangelist with a tote bag full of condiments and a slightly wobbly gait. If you’re in the Barossa and not doing this tasting, you’re doing the Barossa wrong.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Would recommend. Would return....

When it comes to visiting the Barossa region, one place stands out as a must-visit destination: Maggie Beer Farm. It's become somewhat of a tradition for me whenever I find myself in the area, and it never fails to enchant both me and any overseas visitors I bring along.

The heart of the experience lies in the farm shop, which boasts a delightful array of Maggie Beer's renowned products. From gift packs to hampers, and everything in between—think jams, sauces, marmalades, pastes, chutneys, olive oils, and of course, wines and gin. During my latest visit, I couldn't resist picking up a bottle of their acclaimed Verjuice.

But the offerings at Maggie Beer Farm extend far beyond just shopping. They offer cooking experiences that delve into the secrets behind their delectable creations, as well as wine and gin tasting sessions for those eager to explore the local flavors.

One of my favorite moments at Maggie Beer Farm is enjoying a leisurely coffee while taking in the serene view of the lake. It's a peaceful oasis that invites you to unwind and soak in the beauty of the surroundings.

For those looking to stretch their legs, there's the option of a farm walk or a nature walk. The nature walk, in particular, is a short yet beautiful stroll around the lake, offering glimpses of the area's natural splendor.

While I've had the pleasure of experiencing much of what Maggie Beer Farm has to offer, one thing left is to make a booking at the Eatery and it's firmly on my agenda for my next visit.

All in all, Maggie Beer Farm is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the Barossa region. With its charming farm shop, picturesque surroundings, and a variety of experiences to enjoy, it's an experience that never...

There’s plenty of parking and easy access, which was a great start. However, I found the farm shop itself a little underwhelming—it’s quite small and didn’t have the range of products I expected from such a well-known name. The staff behind the counter were quite slow and didn’t acknowledge those waiting, which was disappointing. We also did the wine tasting. Now, I’ll be honest—I’m not a wine drinker, but I decided to give it a go since my husband enjoys it. The staff member running the tasting was clearly passionate and knowledgeable, which many would appreciate. However, I did find his energy a bit overwhelming as you couldn’t get a sip down without him coming back to ask if we liked it etc. I explained upfront that wine isn’t really my thing, but he continued to pour more red for me to “keep up” with my husband. My husband loved it (he ended up drinking most of mine), but personally, it felt like too much. The tasting area only has high tables, which isn’t ideal if you have any physical ailments or mobility issues. The one lower table is reserved for gin tasting only, which limited our options. At the end of the tasting, we were asked if we wanted to buy any bottles—which is fair enough—but I felt a bit rushed, he then had my husband was already at the counter to pay before I had even left the seat. It’s like the purchase was the end goal. Overall, a mixed experience. There were definitely some highlights, but a few small changes could make a big difference to the overall feel and comfort...
