The Great Ocean Road is one of my favourite places in the world. I used to visit at least every fortnight, back when I could afford it, back when petrol was cheaper. I still try to get that way as often as possible. Along the Great Ocean Road there's a lot of places to see, including London Bridge, which is one place I have enjoyed visiting. I have plenty of photos from the area, and one set of photos I had taken while on a trip to the area with a mate, which were of London Bridge before it fell down. When we got home, we heard on the radio that London Bridge had fallen down. We had taken the photos the day before it fell down. There seems like there's a lot of tourists in the area, but most I saw were at the 12 Apostles, so London Bridge wasn't so busy. The area has well made walkways that keep the tourists safe, and helps to keep the area safe as well. Access is easy, and some of it is disabled friendly, which is excellent. Some places have steps, which aren't wheelchair friendly, but the parts that are wheelchair friendly allow the people in the chairs to get a good view of most of the area. I liked the car park layout, as it caters for regular cars, caravans, and buses.
I think the area is a great destination for a visit. You can spend a whole day in the area, and still not see everything, so a couple of days spent in the area would be ideal. It would be less of a rush, and less stress. There's plenty of great places to stay in the area, or nearby. We stayed in a caravan park in Warnambool, and had an excellent time. It was our first trip with the caravan, as we had only just got it, and being our first time. We took our time, and as one of us is wheelchair bound, we appreciated the ease of getting around, and the facilities for people with disabilities.
Sorry for the long review, and for digressing, but I feel that while London Bridge was the target of the review, the review must include the surrounding areas, the facilities, and accommodation, especially considering the area is a little far for a day trip from Melbourne, even Geelong.
You can't go wrong if you include The Great Ocean Road, and places such as London Bridge. I highly...
ย ย ย Read moreAt the time of writing this, there's another 365 reviews of London Bridge posted, so I can't really add anything more that's not already been said. (I'm living locally, as well, so probably hold a biased POV of the place).
But, having read some of the other reviews... I concur with the reviewer who asked folks to "Stop using the bush as public toilets". It is, as that person said, disgusting. Try to plan your trips better. When you're here, you are only (literally) 5km from Peterborough to your west, or 7km to Port Campbell to your east. Plenty of opportunities to go to the loos in those places.
And to Brodie Lynch from a few dozen reviews below: how did you get access onto the beach, to grab that photo? Unless you are specifically permitted to be there (which is only granted to persons with bona-fide sustainable interests related to the protection of the beach and, in particular, the fauna on that beach, ) no members of the public are permitted there. Why? A small colony of Little Penguins call that place home. Very, very tight controls are in place to ensure folks don't go down there - not just because we could, inadvertently (most probably) destroy the penguins' nesting areas, but when we make any sort of readily usable access pathway (etc) onto the beach, what follows? Cats, foxes, dogs (etc, etc). Which ain't friendly at all, to our friendly little colony of Little Penguins. So, next...
