Dutchman Stern Loop hike review not the valley hike which is also at this parking space. This is a 10.5k loop hike with stunning views. The path is very well defined. It offers different brushes and trees which adds to the enjoyment of the hike. As a loop hike it loops around the hill and is always changing, which also adds to the hike. I'm here in June, so I'm bundled up as it's pretty cold. I have hiking boots but walking or running shoes are just fine. The hike does vier off to some edges. I believe it was about a 500 Meter elevation, which is very gradual. I hiked this in 2.5 hours. A 15 minute lunch at the top and a 15 minute look in a few different places makes it 2 hours of hiking. I work out 5 days a week and would rate this as easy. Although, if your BMI says you're obese, you might find this to be moderate l. I would say ok for kids, but the edge does veer close to the trail in some spots. I spotted lots of Gray Kangaroo's, some reds, two golden eagles, lots of birds, Australian ringneck parrots, goats and some sheep blocked the way back for about 5 minutes. All the animals came out an hour before sunset. Also, it's cold so they are out early. I would recommend at least 500ml of water in the winter months. Bring more if visiting in summer....
Read moreTo be honest we expected a much easier walk than what we encountered. The information board listed this as being "gentle" which could not have been farther from the truth. In actuality its over 10 K on a rock strewn path that continues up to and back from the summit. Three of us made the trip and were all very pleased that no one turned an ankle. That said however it was a beautiful hike with kangaroos everywhere in the lower portion of the walk. Views from the summit are spectacular and as long as you are ready for a somewhat arduous experience you will be rewarded with great scenery. The only problem we had was that it was promoted as being Gentle. Had we known that is was somewhat difficult we would have better prepared for it. And by the way..... there are no toilets anywhere on or near this hike so...
Read more20 - 25 mins drive from Quorn. Lovely walk, starts relatively flat but after a while goes up a hill.. fantastic views as you go up the hill. Can get very hot in summer so not recommend on hot days as the sun and the heat is way too hard once the temperature is above 33 - 35.. take plenty of water for this walk. There is absolutely nothing nearby or any source of water.. also the mobile reception is patchy at best... Basically you are in middle of nowhere so plan...
