Each one's opinion of this walk would depend on what they intend to get out of this walk. So, my intent was to get some exercise whist enjoying the views of the water.
We started off at Spit Bridge and ended at Manly. It's approximately a 10km walk, and it took us 3hrs to reach Manly (including 15mins snack time and 10 minutes of dipping the feet in the water). It's definitely not a flat surface, so wear a good pair of walking shoes, as you have quite a few steps inbetween and a gravel road the rest of way. Don't forget to take a bottle of water, as I didn't see any water fountains on the way. The good thing about this walk is that there is plenty of shade, so you can walk at pretty much any time (We started at 1pm, and didn't break a sweat).
If you're intent of this walk is just for the views, then this 10km walk might not be the best, as there is a fare amount of bushes that block the view along the path. But if you want to get a bit of exercise as well, I would recommend it. You could either start mid morning and end at Manly for lunch or start late afternoon and get there for dinner, cause you definitely build up an appetite after the walk.
My personal suggestion would be to start at Spit Bridge at 12.30pm and reach Manly around 3.30pm, grab some fish and chips and maybe an icecream, and then catch the regular ferry (not the fast one, as you can't sit at the front of it) to Circular Quay and catch the sun setting behind the harbour bridge (You'll have to time your ferry trip...
Read moreThere’s not many walks in Australia that can match the great walks of New Zealand, but when the sun is out, the Manly Spit Bridge Walk delivers. Best of all, it’s an easy one to get to via public transport, elevation is minimal, and the track is (mostly) in good shape. There are toilets located at a number of places, numerous spots you can bail out early and order a cab, and a few decent places to stop for a bite or a drink. We did this with a ferry to Manly, and started the walk from the Wharf, completing it in about 4 hours, with a stop for lunch at the fabulous Bosk café at Clontarf and then an Uber back from Spit Junction (though there’s plenty of buses there). The first section of the walk follows the wide esplanade round to Fairlight, diverting onto a few street before ducking back down to the harbour, and off the streets at North Harbour. From there it’s all off road, with some lovely patches of bushland, some sections which come right down to the harbour, and others which lift you up on to Dobroyd Head for views out of the Heads. There’s some steep steps around Castle Rocks, but most people of even basic fitness should be able to manage this walk. There’s a little known coffee stand on the wharf at the Manly Boatshed, another café at North Harbour, and then it’s Clontarf and Spit Junction if you want lunch or a drink. A world class walk, right on your doorstep Sydney, and it’s...
Read moreThis walk was definitely my favourite. Done the Bundi to Coogee the day before, so I expect kind of the same. WRONG! This trail is definitely more a hike compared to the other one. You should wear good shoes and bring your swimsuit. We passed so many nice and lonely beaches, the water is Cristal clear and the views amazing. Start early in the morning, just to have enough time to relax on the beaches a little bit. It's a very varied hike. Totally recommend. The only thing.... We didn't have the opal card and there were just bus stations excepting prepared only... We got lucky a busdriver took us to the next 7/11 to buy an opal card ;) be aware of that :) you also should bring enought to eat and drink! if you just have time for one coastal walk and ask me to choose... I would say manly to spit - or spit to manly... ;) What ever you prefere :) although I really liked the atmosphere at...
