Read moreLoved this 2.4km return hike with my family (including soon-to-be 6yo and 8yo children). Lovely variation of the hiking scene, with a mini waterfall preview at the start, followed by a beach-like preview near the halfway mark where you can dip your feet in the creek, finishing off with steep and narrow steel steps as you get closer.
We enjoyed plucking some of the lemon myrtle along the way and crushing them to sniff in nature's own perfume!
The crowd today was unexpectedly big, with at least 100 people turning over in the 30 minutes or so that we spent at the water area. No surprise on a 31C day. No better day to be here, to be honest!
The diving was certainly for the brave, with a lower dive (2m?) on the left and a cliffside (5m?) dive on the right. My wife and I would've gone if we didn't have care responsibilities but it was entertaining watching the young ones take the many plunges!
I did see one guy slip off the left-side lower dive but thankfully no significant injury came from it. Ho at your own risk!
We managed to see a juvenile thorny devil (?) and a rather large skink on our hike! Many butterflies too!
My wife would not...

Only a 10 minute walk down an adventurous and dynamic trail full of views until you arrive at the lovely open basin with high and grabbing waterfall above. On the way down the main trail, you can find many mini attractions of the initial waterfall to stop at, with many smaller waterfalls, water holes, creek and embankments of sand under trees for picnics and play with children, family, friends & pets. The trek alone is worth while, but the initial walk into the main waterfall 'arena' can be breathtaking if you're present. Be warned, the water is a cold-plunge/ice bath experience! Quite deep at over 2m in most spots especially around the middle it may get up to 5m or deeper. But all ages seemed to still enjoy it with pool toys...
