We booked the Canopy Treehouses for our anniversary, and sadly were disappointed somewhat. The location, surroundings, animals and rainforest did not disappoint, and it cannot be overstated how gorgeous this location is and it's close proximity to other lovely sights and towns makes it a perfect getaway. However, there are a couple of things that detracted from our weekend, a major drawcard for us was the fireplace, we had been looking forward to building a romantic fire for a long time. When we got into the treehouse we noticed the fireplace was out of order, we weren't told of this prior to arrival. We went to reception and spoke to Daniel, who said he should be able to swap us into another treehouse the following day or have the fireplace fixed. We left early in the morning before he was available to speak to at reception. He left us a voicemail at 11.54am asking us to call him regarding our room, no further information was given in his message. We returned his call at 12.36pm, we called a further six times between then and 4pm, none of our calls were answered or returned. Upon returning to our treehouse we noted the fireplace had not been repaired and there was no notice on our door updating us on the situation. We went up to reception, Daniel stated he'd been "trying to call us all day". When asked what time he called, he said 10am, when we showed him our phone and said you called at 11.54am and we called back seven times, you did not return any of our calls or follow us up. He then stated "Oh yes, it was that time, and oh I've been doing massages in the afternoon and didn't have reception." No offer of a reason as to why he didn't respond to any of the messages we left on his messaging system or returned our calls at around midday before he'd gone out to do massages. He said he could've swapped us into a new treehouse earlier but now there's nothing he can do as the cleaners have left. We were so disappointed as we were very close by, if he had only said in his voicemail that he has another treehouse for us we would've come straight back, however, he left an vague message, and didn't return any of our return calls. His service was frustrating and took away from our anniversary weekend, and left us with little to no faith in his communication with his customers. The treehouse itself was spotlessly clean, the cleaners do an amazing job and the windows were crystal clear, that was brilliant. In the bathroom and bedroom however, very little thought had been put into the lighting, in the bathroom there was a row of downlights above the mirror, with four bare globes so bright when you turned it on they were blinding and were not a nice ambiance at all. The tap in the bath was almost falling off, and the hand soap in the bathroom was a refilled container, which is not an issue, however this was 50 parts water to barely 1 part soap, which didn't need any water to get off your hands, it just ran off, and was just not able to be used to wash your hands. There were also some scarily wired lights above the head of the bed on each side, that were also just globes and super bright, the wiring was taped together and coming loose. The small things, care of and attention to details make or break a stay when you're paying $400 a night. We stayed in the Red Kangaroo treehouse. I'd recommend staying here for the location, but make sure you check that things are as you are hoping for...
Read moreThe Bower House at Canopy Tree Houses is a remarkable, pole-built house with beautiful views and surroundings. The property is extensive, and there are trails through the forest to explore. ||The house itself is looking a little tired. Around the base of the trim around the downstairs shower is black with mold, there are holes in the walls that need patching and painting, and all the beds creak like antiques. The hand soap, bubble bath, and dish washing liquid were all empty or very close to empty upon arrival and after asking for a refill, took over 24 hours to be supplied. ||These flaws can be overlooked, but what can't be is the lack of hospitality from the hosts/staff. One day the power went out, so we called the reception, and we were told their power was out too, not to worry etc. The problem is the house requires electric power to pump water to the taps and toilets, so from about 8:30 a.m. to mid afternoon (over 6 hours), our party of 6 couldn't get a drink or flush the toilets. The houses are quite remote with no potable water or toilet facilities nearby. From that point, nobody at reception answered the phone or email for over 4 hours, while we were without drinking water, flushing toilets, the ability to wash our hands, and our food was spoiling in the fridge. Eventually, we drove to reception to get some water and explain our predicament. The attitude of the man there was that we were all in the same boat and there was nothing he could or would do. I pointed out I was paying $400 dollars per night to be in a house with no toilet or water, so we were not in fact in the same boat. He then agreed to go and get some water for us to use. The water still took a few hours to show up, and not long later the power came back on after 6 hours being off.||We did a quick Google of the local power company, and, it turns out, it was scheduled maintenance of the local power grid that caused the outage. Businesses would have been notified (according to the supplier website) at least 5 days in advance of the outage. For Canopy Treehouses not to notify us of the outage and come up with a plan to mitigate it seems like a dereliction of duty to their guests, and their attitude when being called out about this was pathetic. At the very least, when we advised we were without sanitary facilities and drinking water at 8:30 am, water should have been immediately provided.||Airbnb agreed that Canopy Treehouses failed in their duty to provide basic amenities and gave us a refund for a nights’ stay. ||Based on our experience, I cannot recommend staying here. Should the Canopy Treehouses ever come under new management, or current management takes their responsibility as a host seriously, I'm sure it would be an excellent place to stay.||P.S. no wifi...
Read moreMy partner and I recently stayed in one of the gorgeous treehouses for our anniversary, and everything about it was incredible. We create such special memories while staying here - it was a very unique experience. We spotted lots of wildlife - many of the animals coming up to the treehouse, including a pademelon with a baby in its pouch, some beautiful birds, possums and others. We loved going to the lake and seeing the turtles. Each morning we woke up to the sound of the birds chattering. The most special memory was going an a walk at night around our treehouse (with the torch and map provided to us at check in), and stumbling across a group of beautiful glowing fireflies... We couldn't believe it, I honestly thought I was dreaming (apparently they only glow for a brief time each year). The treehouse itself was beautiful! We love the wooden aesthetic, the privacy, and no regular traffic noises - just the sounds of the rainforest. We loved using the spa bath. The windows were all large, and you could see all of the beautiful green trees as you woke up. It was actually quite therapeutic to have minimal reception while in our treehouse - at one point we were wondering what certain animals were, and we were only able to look in a book found in the treehouse instead of searching Google! It was also nostalgic to pick some DVDs from reception and use a DVD player again rather than the usual Netflix. The staff were also really friendly and welcoming up at reception, and you can tell they are passionate about what they do. The only issue we had is that we didn't want to leave!! I would recommend staying at LEAST 3 or 4 nights.
My partner and I are definitely hoping to return one day to this beautiful little sanctuary, and we will never forget our recent stay
