We had a wonderful stay on Picnic Island , a secluded tiny island just off the coast of the Freycinet National Park with views on the three peaks. The whole experience was quite magical even though the weather wasn’t always on our side (which only added to the experience). It started by taking a short water taxi ride from Coles Bay to the island itself, where we had the next few days of absolute exclusion. Well apart from the local penguin community. We cooked some great dinners, had plenty of wine, saw a beautiful sunset , hung out with the penguins, and fell asleep to the howling wind. The island comes with five bedrooms and a main living room/kitchen and can host up to ten guests. It’s great for families and groups of friends, and will no doubt be an unforgettable experience. The communication with our host Clem has been quick & efficient and he made sure we had everything we need to have a comfortable stay. Thanks for this memorable getaway!

When I first booked Picnic Island, I went around telling everyone I knew how excited I was that I had rented an actual island to stay on. I had no idea how incredible the island would actually be. From the friendly aqua taxi operators to the feeling of having your own island loom before you as you approach, to the fishing off the dock, to the incredible architecture and interior design of the space, to the harvesting of fresh mussels off the buoys, to the fairy penguins visiting at night, to the sound of waves rocking you to sleep, to Clem's hospitality and kindness, I'm gonna have to rate this experience a solid one million out of five. Oh, also, I proposed to my girlfriend on this island and she said yes. I have no way of knowing if that would have gone differently if we weren't on an incredible island, but it definitely didn't hurt. Book this place. Please keep it in operation, because I will absolutely return someday.

Amazing long weekend with Friends celebrating Australia Day. Arrived to paradise and unloaded supplies before settling in for sundowners. Watched the mutton birds arrive and kids were fascinated as they landed right next to them. Greeted by Dolphins for breakfast and then hunted the rook pools finding hermit crabs, starfish and all manner of shells. Epic rock stacking competition and snorkelling off the private beach. Saw huge range of fish and kelps snorkelling in clear water with beautiful rocky drop-off at the back of the island.

We were lucky enough to spend Christmas 2022 on Picnic Island in Great Oyster Bay (Coles Bay). I cannot recommend this experience enough- one of my top 3 places in the world (possibly number 1). ||||Our group travelled comfortably with 6 adults and a 7 month old . ||||From sunset/ sunrises, night time penguin walks (special torches provided), sound of the rising and falling tides to swimming off the jetty, fishing and the most well appointed outdoor (hot) shower- the whole experience was magic. ||||At low tide, you can circumnavigate the island on the rocks but the island track is excellent too. ||||The sleeping cabins all have water views, include linen and hot water bottles for cooler nights. ||||The living/ kitchen cabin also has a beautiful view and a big fire place. The kitchen has everything you need (fridge, gas oven/ grill/ cooktop, large esky for drinks/ extra food). There is a gas BBQ on the deck that handled our Christmas cook up swimmingly. ||||There is tea and coffee making facilities (stove top espresso, plunger) with some tea and coffee provided. ||||There is a water activity box on the deck with a tackle box, snorkeling gear, some wetsuits and reef shoes (highly recommend bringing your own or using these if you want to swim/ walk...

Picnic island is an idylic place to enjoy , a must do experience. Our family of 8 including 2 children had the perfect get together for 3 nights. The accomadation is perfectly designed for an island ,blends into the environment, very comfortable, the winter sun warmed the rooms beautifully. The days passed quickly with plenty to do, with walks around the island frequently to observe the wildlife, including seals frollicking, abundant bird life, fishing ,collecting muscles at low tide, exploring the rocks, finding the hidden treasure chest hidden in the rocks, sitting on the decks enjoying a wine with spectacular scenery all around, and of course going out at night to see the penguins and listening to the chat as they leave the island in the morning, they were nesting behind the bedrooms. None of us even read a page of a book. It is an absolutely fabulous place to relax and have quality family time together. We have been to some absolutely amazing places around the world, Picnic Island has been added to the...
