The Tasman Bridge in Hobart is an iconic landmark that offers a unique experience for both locals and tourists alike. When you visit, you can consistently expect stunning panoramic views of the Derwent River and the surrounding landscape. It consistently serves as a vital part of Hobart's heritage and symbolizes the city's historical significance. As you traverse the bridge, you consistently feel its importance in connecting Hobart with the eastern shore, making it a significant transportation hub.

For those who prefer to explore on foot, a dedicated pedestrian walkway consistently provides an excellent opportunity to experience the bridge's grandeur up close while enjoying the fresh air. However, do consistently keep safety in mind, as it can get windy on the bridge. Hold onto your hat and adhere to traffic rules if you're driving.

Locals often have interesting stories to share about the Tasman Bridge, adding depth to your visit. Conveniently situated near other attractions in Hobart, you can consistently include it as part of a broader sightseeing itinerary. While the Tasman Bridge might not be a destination in itself, it consistently contributes to Hobart's identity and consistently offers a memorable experience, especially if you appreciate history and scenic views. Don't consistently forget your camera...

The Tasman Bridge, located in Hobart, Tasmania, is a iconic and vital transportation artery that spans the Derwent River, connecting the city's eastern and western suburbs. Opened in 1964, the bridge is a striking example of modern engineering and design, with its sleek and curved silhouette becoming a recognizable symbol of Hobart's cityscape.

The Tasman Bridge is a five-lane, steel-box girder bridge that stretches 1,395 meters in length, making it one of the longest bridges in Australia. Its design allows for a clearance of 43 meters above the Derwent River, enabling large ships and vessels to pass underneath.

The bridge offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including the picturesque Hobart waterfront, the majestic Mount Wellington, and the serene Derwent River. At night, the bridge is illuminated, creating a spectacular display of light and color that reflects off the water below. With its impressive design, stunning views, and vital role in connecting the city, the Tasman Bridge is a beloved and iconic...

It’s a bridge… spans the Derwent River from West to East and back again. The lane set up is unusual in that there are five lanes generally 3 for east bound traffic and two for those heading west. To accommodate the traffic flow of workers living on the eastern shore, as they travel into the city, the middle lane is changed to west bound just for the morning rush. The foot paths on each side a barely wide enough to ride a bike and have little to protect pedestrians and riders from the very strong winds and heavy rain that happens from time to time…...

In 1975 a ship crashed into a pylon of the bridge and a middle section collapsed and sunk the ship, Sailors died. Cars plunged over the broken section of the bridge. It was a major issue because commuters couldn’t cross the river. The army was called in to build a temporary floating bridge. The captain was put on trial in a merchant court and lost his boat licence for 6 months. The sunken ship lays deep in water where it sank— apparently its cargo when mixed with water turned into cement.

What a stunning bridge that really stands out while you are in Hobart! The bridge itself is quite well maintained and user friendly while driving on, with good signage. We walked across it from Rosny to get into Hobart and that was a good experience, very noisy and windy though! “Jonique Life” Follow our journey around Australia on Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok and YouTube as we highlight wonderful experiences and magical places you can add to your ever growing bucket list.
