Terrible! Certainly not recommended! Though there are numerous signs saying that many of the Towns on the York Peninsula are RV Friendly, they and the Council Rangers there are most certainly not! They are the exact opposite! My vehicle which is a $240,000 fully "Self Contained" Coach or Bus which is fitted out with its own Stainless Steel 300 litre Black or Toilet water storage Tank, a 500 litre Stainless Steel Grey water storage Tank (both which are designed to be connected to and drained at official or registered Dump Points!) plus a 1000 litre Stainless Steel Fresh filtered water storage Tank which therefore sees the vehicle most certainly and not all needing to leave any sort of human mess or waste behind when travelling or stopping to rest! Or to not require to use other peoples water! While on a rest stop and after checking that there were "no" Signs saying no parking, we were approached and were very rudely and accusingly, slapped with a $300 plus fine even though we were stopped in a safe, well off the road and in an "out of anybody's way location"! Yes my Partner and I, both in our seventies were very bluntly and rudely spoken too as if we were criminals! We were accused of being just like Back Packers or Campers who leave messes etc every where behind!! We were gobsmacked and dumbfounded by this treatment and accusations! The two obvious "power driven" York Peninsula Council Rangers, even though I freely and cooperatively offered and gave one of them an inspection of my Motorhome inside & out including showing the fully Self Contained System, it didn't matter! Their only interest and intention was to give us a Fine!! The Ranger who wrote out the Fine also did "not" even have a Pen in his pocket to write with saying he'd left it in his car so borrowed mine to write out the fine with which by the way, he "didn't" bother to return! Yea, so hows that for a Visitors welcome to the York Peninsula that we were forced to endure, "not"!! And this was after we had supported local businesses by purchasing fuel and food. Disgraceful, unprofessional and certainly unwarranted! It did of course totally ruin the trip and holiday! Never again to the York Peninsula. We can only advise and warn you people to choose another district and location to holiday in and not go to the York Peninsula! Thank you and happy travels elsewhere! Cheers and all...
Read moreWe’ve just spent the last two weeks caravanning around the Peninsula A few nice little towns with houses built from sandstone blocks Generally we were very dissapointed in our travel Most of the land on the Peninsula has been stripped , by your fore fathers, of all vegetation leaving empty dry and dusty fields It would have been nice if every 100 acres they left 5 acres of natural bush It’s a sad sight looking across the desert like land that runs right down to the shoreline
We saw no attempt at any rehabilitation of lands
Yep the Yorke Peninsula is a great example of how we’ve turned low coastal bush lands into virtual desert
Negative I know but reality
Second beef
What the. Has happened to the fishing. SA was known as the land of plentiful snapper and King George whiting the thickness of your wrist Whoever we have stopped I see people fishing for Garfish , Squid and Sand Crabs I’m a keen fisho but haven’t bothered to set any gear up if that’s what’s on offer
Another example of total mismanagement of our environment
Would I reccomend a visit to the Yorke Peninsula
