Beautiful island. Love the quiet of the island compared to business of Nassau. I gave 3 stars because most importantly for me is that the island is not pregnant person friendly for a babymoon- I found several speed bumps had no warning sign prior to them, and they’re barely painted if painted at all. So if you’re driving on your own you have to be careful. Also, major potholes that could hurt your belly if you go into them. We were in our way to Lighthouse Beach and most of the road leading up to it was rocky trenches- had to turn around. There was a major hole when the road switched from cement to the dirt/rock road, caused me a lot of pain when the car went into it. There’s no doctor on the island on weekends. Also lots of flies in the beach areas from where we’ve stopped so far. We were literally swarmed by flies at Frigates Bar and Grille once our food got to the table, had to move inside because it was THAT many, not just swatting at 1-2. It was at least 10 all around us. Our resort area had lot of flies as well - La Bougainvilla. Also don’t like that many of the buildings look abandoned, but apparently are functioning. Can be hard to find what you need. Another downside is that most places are cash only…yet we stopped at at least 3 Atms trying to find cash and NONE of them worked! . Needed cash for gas and we ran out of cash. We had just enough gas to make it back to our resort and luckily find a working arm nearby the resort. That was a bit...
Read moreFrom the moment you arrive, you will meet a genuine Eleutheran. Everyone you meet will be just as nice and no they will not mug you off at all. They are so nice and friendly you won't believe it, actually takes so.e getting used to. We visited to collect sea shell's and enjoy the Bahamas first hand. We had a car hire from a really nice chap Wilton Thomas who as a small fleet of 15 cars. They are ordinary cars as there are pot holes and unmade roads everywhere you go. That said the roads were easy to drive as not many cars on the roads. We had the most amazing adventures round the island, stopping off at as many beaches as possible. We popped into local shops for snacks and drinks etc, the people just so friendly everywhere you go. The beaches and sightseeing exceptional bars and restaurants. We stayed at Pineapple Fields central Eleuthera Governors Harbour on the Atlantic side if the island. Directly opposite Tippy's restaurant and bar.the atmosphere was amazing every night, with live music most nights Reggie and Jazz brilliant musicians doing their stuff. Like most former British colonies, plantations with untold stories if you care to look around you. Most of the unmade roads former plantation access roads. What a beautiful place with...
Read moreEleuthera is the longest island in the Bahamas. While there are several resorts on the island it is nothing like Nassau, and I reckon that a "good thing!" The travel warnings issued for some places in the Bahamas hardly seem to apply here. The people are very friendly and willing to help you find your way around the island which is for the most part considered very safe. If you are looking for a bit more freedom to explore and see the natural beauty that The LORD created in the Bahamas then Eleuthera is a great place to do that! Actually the name Eleuthera comes from the Greek word meaning freedom which was given to it by the original settlers who were actually seeking freedom themselves - religious freedom to live by the teachings of the BIBLE! Thankfully, the Bahamas still attempts to hold on to some Christian roots so be mindful of that because if you think freedom means you can do as you please you should know that public nudity is an offence punishable by incarceration. So be decent and respectful of the locals as you visit what's referred to as a "family island". What's lacking in being somewhat underdeveloped is made up for in the serene natural beauty and the opportunity to experience it without the crowds that come...
