My husband and I did the St. Herman’s combo tour today (cave exploration and cave tubing) and it was a really incredible experience. Edgar was our guide and he did a fantastic job. He knew different birds and bird calls and named butterflies and plants along our jungle walk to the mouth of the cave, and then once your inside, it is absolutely breathtaking. The various cave formations were magnificent to see, the history lesson on the Mayan people and the pottery was fascinating, and we even got to see some cave inhabitant along the way (fruit bats, crickets, millipedes, a big blind spider who isn’t really a spider, and some small carp in the water).
My husband and I do a lot of adventures together and some guides are better than others, but Edgar was excellent. He was very knowledgeable about the caves and Mayan people and practices and in addition to that he was able to identify multiple different kinds of birds, bird call’s, butterflies and plant species on our jungle walk up to the cave. He told great stories, gave good information all along the trip for the cave exploration part, and he was patient with us as we continued the hike and it got steeper/more slippery (He’s like a mountain goat and can climb straight up things! We on the other hand were not).
Bring bug spray! I sprayed it on before we went on our jungle walk to the cave but it must have worn Off/washed off because I had some bites by the time we were back to the car so I would recommend replaying bug spray before walking back to the main entry (only of you get eaten alive by mosquitos/bugs like I do - my husband has no issues with bugs whatsoever and ended up no bites)
This is a tour and company I can highly recommend and a beautiful and fun adventure if you’ve got time while you’re in Belize! Next time we come back we want to try Crystal Cave - it sounds...

We were originally going to just do the cave tubing however Omar excitedly told us that we could explore the cave as well! Our wonderful and intelligent guide Edgar brough my family of 5 about a mile into the cave (you can only go 200 ft in without a guide), it was a wonderful adventure which involved climbing rocks and crawling but ilat the end it opened into a mayan sacrificial chamber which edgar painted a beaitiful picture of the history and what went on in the cave. Once here we cooled off in the river which formed the cave and let the current carry us all the way back in tubes. It was the most exciting lazy river that I have ever done! The dry cave exploration absolutely made the cave tubing even more fun. Through their company you can also book a zipline tour which is the tallest and fastest in Belize and carries you through the rainforest, from mountain to mountain over the valleys. You can also get guides to mayan ruins, and jungle...
Read moreThis was the ultimate lazy river tube ride! Imagine crossing a high current creek in a big bus and passing through a citrus grove spotting exotic birds only to get to a river to toss your tube in so you can float it into a 275M year old majestic cave that still holds Mayan artifacts!
The entrance into the cave is too magnificent to describe and once inside the endless darkness your lighted head gear keeps revealing the art of nature in the form of the most unbelieveable stalactite formations that the mind can imagine.
Our guide Hector, was knowledge, funny and led us through climbing adventures into the top of the cave, endless insights and hosted a great picnic lunch in this ancient environment. We spied fish, bats and many other cave dwelling critters along the way. This was a full day adventure that was worth every penny and made for a unique and memorable experience!
If you get the opportunity, don't pass...
